Renowned Odia music composer and singer, Abhijit Majumdar, passed away on January 25, 2026, at the age of 54. He succumbed to prolonged health problems and ultimately passed away from natural causes. His death left his family, friends, and close acquaintances heartbroken. Abhijit's demise has left a pall of gloom over the music fraternity and his massive fan base in Odisha, who mourned the loss of the artist often referred to as the Melody King. As he journeys to the afterlife, fan curiosity sparked regarding his surviving family, including his wife, who stayed by his side till his last breath.
Abhijit Majumdar was smitten by his wife, Ranjita, at just a glance. The singer got hitched to her at a time when marriage was not one of his prime concerns. During his 2021 appearance on 91.9 Sidharth FM's Valentine's Day program, Tu Mo Valentine, he shared his wedding story. The Odia singer mentioned that he wanted to chill and enjoy his bachelor life when Ranjita unexpectedly entered his life, prompting him to reconsider marriage. Not much is known about her, including her profession or other personal life details. Ranjita largely stayed out of the spotlight, except for a few public appearances with her late husband.
Abhijit Majumdar bid goodbye to his bachelor life and welcomed his spousal life after choosing Ranjita Majumdar as his life partner. They tied the knot in 1999 and have spent over 25 years together as of January 2026. The exact date of Abhijit and Ranjita's marriage is not widely reported; however, the year can be estimated from the singer's chat with 91.9 Sidharth FM's RJs. Abhijit and Ranjita appeared on the show on February 14, 2021, when Ranjita revealed that she had fallen for his voice and looks, and later his personality, leading to a romantic interest in him.
Both Abhijit and Ranjita felt a connection after getting to know each other, and they chose each other as their life partner. During their 22nd year of marriage, when they appeared on the radio show, they still looked like a young couple in love. By that time, Abhijit and Ranjita had an addition to their family, their only child, Ayush Majumdar. Notably, the details of Ayush's date of birth are unknown. While Ranjita accompanied her husband on televised programs, such as Pranam Odisha, where they shared insights into their personal and professional lives, Ayush rarely appeared on camera.
Regardless, Ayush remained his parents' support system behind the scenes. The mother-son duo were frequently cited as Abhijit Majumdar's primary support system, especially during his health deterioration and extensive hospitalisation starting in September 2025. Following his death, his family and the Ollywood film fraternity have received condolences from major figures, including Odisha's Chief Minister, Mohan Charan Majhi. Mourning the loss, he wrote on X:
"I am deeply saddened to learn about the demise of music director Abhijit Majumdar. His demise is an irreparable loss to our music, cinema, and culture. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and pray to Lord Jagannath for the peace of the departed soul."
According to official statements from AIIMS Bhubaneswar, Abhijit Majumdar's death was attributed to several health issues. The singer suffered a cardiac arrest at 7:43 am on the morning of January 25. Despite 80 minutes of resuscitation efforts and CPR following advanced cardiac life support protocols, he couldn't be saved and was pronounced dead at 9:02 am. Two days prior to his death, on January 23, Abhihit developed a new infection and fever. It progressed to refractory septic shock, which led to a critical deterioration in his health.
Abhijit Majumdar had been battling multiple physical conditions and was hospitalised since early September 2025. He developed Osmotic Demyelination Syndrome (ODS), a rare neurological disorder affecting the brain, which often results from rapid correction of blood sodium levels. Abhijit also had chronic liver disease, bilateral pneumonia and bloodstream infection. He suffered from hospital-acquired pneumonia and a multidrug-resistant infection (Acinetobacter). His other ailments included hypertension, hypothyroidism, nutritional deficiencies (Vitamin D and Folic Acid), and dyselectrolytaemia.
