'120 Bahadur' Ending Explained, Why Did 'Major Shaitan Singh' Order His Men To Leave Him Behind?

Farhan Akhtar's war drama film, 120 Bahadur has finally made its way to OTT after a successful theatrical run. For those who do not know, the film is now available on Amazon Prime Video, and is generating a lot of buzz among viewers. The film, directed by Razneesh Ghai tells the story of the Battle of Rezang La. Amid the buzz around the film, read on to know how the war drama ends.

Plotline of 120 Bahadur

The film, 120 Bahadur is set in 1962, when tension between India and China escalated along the Himalayan border. Since, the Indian army speculates chances of a war, a few soldiers are sent to extremely cold and high-altitude areas to protect the country. That is when viewers are introduced to 'Major Shaitan Singh Bhati' (played by Farhan Akhtar). He is commanding the 120 soldiers (Charlie Company) of the 13 Kumaon Regiment.

As 'Major Shaitan Singh Bhati' is gearing up for the war, the film briefly shows his wife, who continuously prays for the well-being of her husband. Later, Charlie Company is ordered to defend Rezang La, which is an important mountain at a height of more than 16,000 feet. Despite the harsh conditions, 'Major Shaitan Singh Bhati' prepares his soldiers. On November 18, 1962, the battle began as the Chinese army launched a massive attack. Thousands of Chinese soldiers have gathered to fight against 120 Indian men.

Even though, Charlie Company is heavily outnumbered, they continue to fight with all their dedication. They refuse to give up. When bullets are no longer available, the Charlie Company is seen using bayonets, knives, and even their bare hands. In this brutal war, 'Major Shaitan Singh Bhati' takes the lead, by putting himself in danger, only to command his soldiers.

In that process, he is severely injured. His soldiers try to carry him to safety, but when 'Major Shaitan Singh' realises the danger, he orders them to leave him behind and protect the country. He even orders his radio operator to report the truth of the battle to headquarters. 'Major Shaitan Singh' is left behind on the battlefield, where he dies.

The headquarters did not believe the bravery of Charlie Company

After an intense war, only a few soldiers managed to survive. Those few return to the Indian base and tell their officers about the bravery of Charlie Company and how 120 men fought against thousands. However, senior officers in the headquarters do not believe them as the story sounds impossible. The survivors were questioned suspected of exaggerating the events. However, months later, when the snow melts, the Indian Army sends a team to Rezang La to uncover the truth.

There they find that few soldiers are frozen, but still holding their weapons. A few are still in fighting positions and 'Major Shaitan Singh's' body is exactly where the survivors had told. This proves the authenticity of the survivors. The film ends by honouring the bravery of the 120 soldiers of Charlie Company. 'Major Shaitan Singh' is awarded the Param Vir Chakra for his bravery till his last breath.

The film, 120 Bahadur stars Farhan Akhtar, Raashii Khanna, Dhanveer Singh, Digvijay Pratap, Sahib Verma, Eijaz Khan and more. Amitabh Bachchan serves as the narrator of the film. For the unversed, the film hit the theatres on November 21, 2025, and it received positive reviews from the audience. Viewers were very impressed with the narrative and the powerful performances by the actors.
