For the unversed, the diva made her debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film, Saawariya, along with Ranbir Kapoor. During their debut film, the media was rife with their relationship rumours. However, Sonam's candid thoughts about Ranbir proved otherwise.
There was a time when Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor were rumoured to be dating. According to several media reports, the duo started dating while shooting for their debut film, Saawariya. However, years later, when Sonam graced the popular chat show, Koffee With Karan, she made some startling revelations about Ranbir and took a sarcastic dig at him. During the show, when Karan asked Sonam to "Rank in order of s*x appeal – Ranbir Kapoor, Imran Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan and John Abraham," the actress shared her candid thoughts about her rumoured ex-beau, Ranbir.

Sonam ranked the actors and stated that she would keep her ex-boyfriend, Ranbir, in the fifth position. Revealing her reason behind the same, the actress mentioned that Ranbir is a great actor but not sexy. In her words:
"John is 1, Imran's 2nd, third is Abhishek, fourth is Hrithik and 5th is Ranbir. Ranbir is a great actor but sex appeal…"
Karan Johar reacted to Sonam's reply and asked her if she would give zero to Ranbir in terms of sex appeal. To this, the actress tried to mend her words and said that she finds Ranbir sexy only when he strips. Further, Sonam revealed that during the shooting of the song, Jab Se Tere Naina, she was at the set, and she saw all of it when Ranbir's towel fell down because of the fan. In her words:
"No, I mean, only when he strips, you know? Jab Se Tere Naina, he used to take off his clothes. I had no choice, I was there at the shoot."

During a conversation with Karan Johar at Koffee With Karan, Sonam Kapoor talked about Ranbir Kapoor. On being asked by the host how Ranbir is as a boyfriend, the actress mentioned that the actor is great at friendship, but he is not boyfriend material. Sonam also mentioned that she doesn't know why girls are drooling over Ranbir as he is a mama's boy, and he isn't sexy at all. Mentioning that she doesn't understand how Deepika Padukone was with Ranbir for so long, Sonam said:
"Ranbir is a great friend, but not good boyfriend material. I wonder how Deepika held onto him for so long! Are girls drooling over him, Really? Ranbir isn't sexy at all. Ranbir is a mama's boy; his mother cuts his toenails for him."
In an interview with Simi Garewal, Ranbir opened up about Sonam Kapoor's opinion about him. Talking about the same, the actor mentioned that he didn't know why Sonam said such things about him, but nevertheless, he didn't mind any of it. In his words:
"Sonam, I have no idea why she said the things she did. But its fine, you know, if people wanna make fun of me, people wanna ridicule me in some way or the other, its their life. I can’t really say anything about it."
