Bobby Deol made his way into the hearts of his audience with his killer looks and handsome smile. Some of his films like Gupt, Soldier, Barsaat among others, are enough a reason for his massive female fan following to go weak in their knees. But, in real life, it only took the coming of his girl, Tanya Ahuja to change the dimensions of the word love for him. Well then, here’s a sneak peek into their one-of-a-kind love story.
Much like any usual Bollywood romantic movie, Bobby laid his eyes on Tanya as the duo accidentally happened to be at the same place. Well, it happened that Tanya along with her group of friends wsa having a gala time in Mumbai’s iconic Italian cafe, Trattoria in Hotel President. As destiny would have wanted it, Bobby too was present in the same place and in fact he had a few acquaintances from Tanya’s group of friends itself. Clearly, the moment Bobby saw Tanya, cupid struck him the hardest and it was a case of love at first sight for him.

When a person is in love, they say no amount of time with the beloved is satisfactory. And in the case of Bobby, he was desperate to get hold of Tanya’s phone number, as he was completely smitten by her beauty. After ringing up almost all of his friends, he finally got hold of Tanya’s number and also learnt that she was the daughter of an eminent finance company manager, Dev Ahuja. Nevertheless, he phoned her and Bobby finally ended up asking Tanya out on a date. The latter, who was completely flattered by his endearing efforts to reach out to her, agreed to step out for their first date.
Bobby and Tanya have had their fair share of unique experiences in their love life. For instance, in an interview with ace designers, Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, Tanya had recalled an incident when Bobby after seeing her for the first time had sought her number and then called her at an absurd hour in the night. While she did not know who he was back then, she ended up ignoring his call. In her words:
“And then, a while later, he called me up. It was at some absurd hour at night. And I was fast asleep. So I pick up the phone and I say to him, 'I'll call you tomorrow'. He says, 'you don't know who I am?”
There’s no second thought that Bobby and Tanya’s first date went better than their expectations. The duo not only found common ground, but thereafter, they realised that they were meant for one another. While Bobby was professionally riding high on success at that time post his release, Barsaat, he made sure he spent a considerable amount of time with Tanya and they went for many dates and attended several parties together. And so, love blossomed more between the two.
After going strong for quite some time, Bobby decided that this was the time when he should ask the most important question to his ladylove, Tanya. So, after planning a dreamy proposal, Bobby took Tanya to the exact same place, café Trattoria where they had first met each other. Bending down on one knee, he asked Tanya to marry him and stay beside him forever. And obviously, completely touched by his gesture, Tanya said YES!

The madly-in-love couple, Bobby and Tanya finally tied the knot on May 30, 1996. The couple celebrated their union in a lavish traditional ceremony hosted by their parents, which had a large guest list of about eight to ten thousand people. Much later, in an interview with Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla, Tanya had recalled her grand wedding and revealed that due to such a large scale of festivities, both Bobby and Tanya were at times side-lined by their excited parents, who took extra care in handling the wedding arrangements to perfection. For their wedding, Tanya opted for a classic red and gold-hued lehenga from Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla's collection. On the other hand, Bobby looked handsome in a white sherwani.
In another incident, Tanya had once recalled a moment when Bobby purposely lost from her at a game of cards, so that they could interact with one another and he could know more about her. Recalling how she felt that Bobby was a weird guy, she mentioned:
“I went to play cards during the Diwali season at Chunky's (Panday) house, and Bobby came and he sat with me and we played cards at the same table. He kept losing to me, but he wouldn't pay me, he kept saying he'd take me out for a meal. I was like 'what's wrong with this guy?'"
While Bobby and Tanya were a star-crossed couple, however, their marriage raised many eyebrows as they got married at quite an early age. While Bobby was 27 back then, Tanya was barely 19. In an interview with Pinkvilla, Bobby had once opened up about his decision for marrying at a young age and mentioned that he wished to have kids as soon as possible in his life, so that he could see them grow up and take an active part in their childhood. In his words:
“I wanted to start a family. I wanted to not be very old when I had my kids. I wanted to grow up with them. I wanted to be their friend. Because I'm the youngest in my family and the age difference between me and my elder brother is quite a bit. My dad is quite older than me in the sense that I wanted to be close to my father and I just couldn't I used to miss that.”
After a few years of marital bliss, the couple became parents for the first time with the birth of their son, Aryaman Deol in 2002. The family got completed with the arrival of their secondborn, Dharam, two years later in 2004. Interestingly, their younger son shares the same name as his grandfather, Dharmendra, which was decided as a token of love and respect for the veteran actor.
Bobby Deol has set an exemplary role by multi-tasking roles of a fabulous actor, a caring husband and a great father. He leads a lovely family life, which he prefers to keep away from the limelight. In an interview, Tanya Deol had once heaped praises on her darling husband, who beautifully manages all his roles. In her words:
“Bobby is very emotional, he does these small, endearing things which mean so much. As a couple, we can pre-empt every breath we take. Aryaman and Dharam adore him. When he's at home, they are always playing their little games with him. He's glued into every moment in their lives."
Even after 27 years of marital bliss, both Bobby and Tanya have kept the spark in their relationship intact as before!
