Indraneil Sengupta and Barkha Bisht were one of the most adored couples in Telly world. The duo crossed paths during the shooting of their show, Pyaar Ke Do Naam: Ek Radha Ek Shyam and fell in love with one another soon after. After courting one another for a few years, the duo tied the knot on March 2, 2008. After a few years, Barkha and Indraneil welcomed their daughter, Meira into their lives in 2011. Unfortunately, due to reasons best known to them, they announced divorce in 2022.
In a recent interaction with ETimes, Barkha Bisht’s ex-husband, Indraneil Sengupta broke his silence on his divorce from the former, after almost three years. Talking about the same, the actor mentioned how he needed to clarify things, after reading a lot of nasty, baseless things being said about him, and especially about their daughter, Meira. Indraneil rubbished speculations of abandoning his daughter and remarked:
“Of late, I have been reading articles where intentionally or unintentionally, it comes across that I have abandoned my child, Meira. She is my only child and I adore her. I don’t easily react, that’s the kind of person I am. However, as a father, I am not happy about how things are being portrayed. I have been working hard to provide a good life for my child. The only reason why Meira spends more time with Barkha is because she’s at an age where she will soon transition into womanhood and its more practical that her mother guides her.”

Speaking more about his daughter, Indraneil remarked that the little lady has been the strongest one when it came to dealing with his divorce from Barkha. The doting father revealed that Meira spends equal time with him and her mother, and the ex-couple ensure to maintain a loving environment for her. In his words:
“One of the strongest people in this situation has been my daughter. She is in her teens and is a bit rebellious, but she’s mature and has handled it well. She spends around two to three days in a week with me or at times more, if Barkha is travelling. When I’m travelling, she’s either with Barkha or my parents. One day, I sat her down and explained that having loving parents is important, irrespective of whether they love each other. I told her that if anything else has changed-apart from her parents not living under the same roof, I would rectify that.”
Moving forward in the conversation, Indraneil Sengupta grew candid as he reflected on his decision to get divorced from his ex-wife, Barkha Bisht. He mentioned realising how the two of them were entirely different from one another, a fact that increased the gap between them over the years. Indraneil added that many people, both from their respective family and friends tried to step in and mend their relationship. However, it didn’t work out and ultimately they decided to split. He stated:
“We were extremely different personalities right from the beginning. But over the years, we have become more true to ourselves and that increased the gap between us. Our perspectives on love, family, our child and work are very different. That’s when I felt I had to take this step. In my family, everyone gets cold feet when it comes to separation and divorce. When a relationship is falling apart, everyone, from well-wishers to strangers gives you advice. I appreciate their attempts to mend things.”

In the concluding segment of the interaction, Indraneil Sengupta addressed to rumours about him finding love again in his life, after divorce from Barkha Bisht. For the unversed, he was linked up with Bengali actress, Ishaa Saha, and gossipmongers even claimed that she was responsible for his divorce with Barkha. Talking along the same lines, Indraneil dismissed all such conjectures and remarked that even if he was to move on in life and find someone else, that third person can never be wrongfully blamed for his previous broken marriage.
