Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik had an on-and-off relationship spanning nearly six years. The couple first met at a Victoria's Secret afterparty in 2015 and later appeared in his music video, Pillowtalk. In 2016, the couple made their relationship official at the Met Gala. After spending quality time with each other, the duo had a brief breakup in 2018 but soon reunited.
In 2019, they broke up for the second time and yet again gave their relationship another chance. The following year, Gigi and Zayn welcomed a baby girl, whom they named Khai. While the two tried their best to lead a normal life with their daughter, cracks began to appear in their relationship once again.
After six years of an on-and-off relationship, Zayan and Gigi finally parted their ways in 2021. After their breakup, reports surfaced that it was Zayn’s altercation with Gigi’s mom, Yolanda, which led to the couple’s split. A source claimed that Yolanda was repeatedly showing up unannounced and uninvited and this led to some tension between them, which Zayn tried to resolve with his partner.
However, when an argument between Zayn and Yolanda turned hostile, the singer reportedly struck her. Soon, a TMZ article, which stated that Zayn had “struck" Yolanda was published. In the article, it was said that while Gigi was at Paris Fashion Week, Yolanda had come to their Pennsylvania residence.
Reportedly, things soured between Zayn and Yolanda and he pushed her into a dresser. Zayn also allegedly tried to fight off a security guard. In a statement to ET, Zayn denied the allegation levied by Gigi’s mom, Yolanda, and shared his side of the story. He said:
“I adamantly deny striking Yolanda Hadid and for the sake of my daughter. I decline to give any further details and I hope that Yolanda will reconsider her false allegations and move towards healing these family issues in private."
After the couple’s breakup, Zayn Malik appeared on Call Her Daddy podcast and spoke about his relationship with Gigi. The singer revealed, ‘I will always love her but I don’t know if I was ever in love with her.’ Zayn also stated that he would always love Gigi as she gave him their daughter, Khai.
As soon as Zayn’s statement made its way to social media, a source close to Gigi said it was very disrespectful of the singer to ‘badmouthing’ the relationship. Calling it ‘pathetic’, the source revealed:
“There is nothing respectful about badmouthing the mother of your child. Gigi was completely blindsided. It's all so unnecessary and pathetic. It feels like a grubby ploy to get some headlines ahead of his new album launch.”
In the same conversation, Zayn accepted that he also made some mistakes, like talking to someone else when he shouldn't have. The singer mentioned that people live and learn through this, but being with himself actually allowed him to be guilt-free. He added that he can be free to talk to whoever he wants to talk to. Zayn’s comment about talking to others while being in a relationship gives a hint that there was infidelity involved in his and Gigi’s romance.
