Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleToxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, starring Yash, Kiara Advani, and a star-studded cast, has been in the talks for a while now. The movie was initially announced in 2023, with filming taking place from 2024 to 2025. The movie has faced significant delays. It was initially announced for release in April 2025, then in March and June 2026. Finally, after many delays, the movie was released on August 26, 2026, and moviegoers have mixed reviews.
Toxic drew attention for several reasons since the time the glimpses started to surface, and one of them was Yash's bold scenes with Kiara. Kiara filmed the movie while pregnant with her first child, and after its release, audiences praised her for the warmth, essence, and emotional grounding she brought to the rather chaotic and violent plot.
It was expected that the movie would receive a lot of love from the audience. The expectations were really high; however, within the first few hours after its release, some negative reviews started swirling around, thereby sparking a buzz.
Initial reviews noted that the first part was not as strong, while the second part remained engaging. The negative reviews so early after the release were something that almost no one expected. However, speculation about the negative reviews has been rife as well. People have noticed that the negative reviews started swirling around within an hour of the movie's release.
While there's no confirmation of the timeline, this claim has led people to wonder whether the negative reviews were part of 'Paid PR'. While not confirmed, people have also started to assume that the negative PR was orchestrated by Yash's rivals.
The movie was released a few hours ago, and the responses are, as of now, mixed; however, in terms of box-office numbers, the movie bagged Rs. 6-7 crore in pre-sales and grossed Rs. 37 crore. If the reports are to be believed, Toxic has already crossed Rs. 31.76 crore in net domestic box office. While a section of moviegoers feel that the negative reviews are also a part of 'negative PR', there's no proof of that as of now.
Toxic features Yash and Kiara in the lead roles, with the actor playing dual roles. Yash is seen as 'Raya' and also as his son, 'Ticket' (or Rumi). 'Raya' in the movie rules the underground world, while 'Ticket' makes his appearance much later, making the plot even more complex. As seen in the trailer, the movie carries an intense story, at the core of which is the complex bond between a father and a son.
The movie's budget is reportedly around Rs. 400-500 crore. With the release of the movie, moviegoers felt the pre-interval part didn't leave enough room for emotional connection or character development, given its fast pace. Some viewers talked about the scenes being repetitive, using robotic camera technology, or weak writing that didn't do the plot proper justice. The post-interval part of the movie has been described as enjoyable.
