Yash is one of the most renowned actors who has dominated the Kannada film industry for years. While he made his debut in small roles on television shows, he landed his first lead role in the 2008 film, Rocky. Some of his most notable works since then include Raja Huli (2013), Mrs. Ramachari (2014), KGF: Chapter 1 (2018), and KGF: Chapter 2 (2022), among others. Following his last film appearance, fans had been eagerly waiting for his upcoming project, Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups. The trailer for the same dropped a while ago, and since then, it has been making waves online for its bold, jaw-dropping visuals. And many users even compared the film to Ranbir Kapoor's Bombay Velvet.

Yash plays the role of ‘Raya’ in Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups 

Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups is one of the most anticipated films of 2026. This is even more the case for die-hard Yash fans who have waited for the actor to return to the big screen since the success of his 2022 blockbuster, KGF: Chapter 2. The film, directed by Geetu Mohandas, released its posters last week, which gave viewers a sneak peek into the overall vibe and what they can expect from Toxic. However, it was only after the teaser dropped today, on January 8, 2026, that it sent fans into a frenzy, with Yash being introduced as 'Raya'. The studio captioned the teaser, “Get a good look at your danger – Introducing RAYA”. It is worth mentioning that one of the reasons the makers chose to reveal the clip today is that it coincides with Yash's 40th birthday.

Social media users compare Yash's Toxic to Ranbir Kapoor's Bombay Velvet  

No sooner did the teaser for the Yash starrer, Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups drop than social media users began sharing their opinion on the same. While many fans lauded its explosive visuals, some netizens took note of how there were some similarities between this film and Ranbir Kapoor's Bombay Velvet. For instance, both films feature the male leads in suits, holding their g*ns, perfectly embodying their ga***ter avatars. Additionally, the tone and aesthetic of Toxic and Bombay Velvet also led fans to draw parallels between the two. One social media user wrote, “Ladies and gentlemen, Bombay Velvet of Kannada cinema!” Another fan wrote, “Bombay Velvet vibe aa raha hai.” A third user commented, “After watching the Poster the Teaser of Toxic, I can for sure say that this is Bombay Velvet 2.0…”

A few netizens even compared Yash's Toxic to the popular British drama series, Peaky Blinders. One fan asked, “Is Peaky really the benchmark? But what's the point of comparing every single Indian movie with the West?” Another user wrote, “It seems like they are imitating Peaky Blinders.”

From the teaser, what we understood is that the Geetu Mohandas-directed film, Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups, is a gritty crime drama which is set in the 1980s in the coastal town of Goa. The film will take viewers on a journey into the underworld, where a powerful dr*g cartel calls all the shots. Regarding Toxic's cast, the film features well-known names such as Yash, Tara Sutaria, Rukmini Vasanth, Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, and more. Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups is scheduled to release in theatres on March 19, 2026.
