The internet was constantly saying that whoever cast Sara Arjun in 'Dhurandhar' deserves a raise. But what made her stand out during the audition? The casting director revealed!
Aditya Dhar's movie, Dhurandhar, has been grabbing attention since last year. The first part of the movie was released on December 5, 2026, while the sequel was released on March 19, 2026, and both parts have made history, with Part 2 already doing wonders at the box office after 9 days of its release.
The movie's plot, cast, album, and the director's detailing were so perfect that people are not able to get over the film just yet. Amid others, Sara Arjun, the female lead, grabbed the attention of the viewers, and people over the internet have been claiming that whoever has cast her in the role of Pakistani girl, 'Yalina Jamail' deserves a raise. Now, casting director Mukesh Chhabra revealed the real reason why Sara was selected for the role of 'Hamza's love interest and wife.
Mukesh Chhabra recently sat for an interview with The Right Angle with Sonal Kalra, wherein he talked about casting Sara in the role of 'Yalina'. He revealed that they had a whole lot of conversation about the casting of 'Yalina' initially, and their main agenda was that they wanted to have a fresh approach. Well, thousands of people auditioned, and some of the big stars were also on the list, who couldn't make it. He also stated that the plan was to cast someone fresh and new who has no background. Sharing more about the same, Mukesh said:
"Aditya got so many messages from different people. I got messages asking, ‘Why not me?’ Because, of course, he's Ranveer. Hum log bohot clear the, ki poori duniya mein woh fresh ladki lagni chahiye ki jiska koi background naa ho, so that aisa lage ki uss duniya mein he is going, woh uss duniya mein jaa raha hai.”
In the same interview, Mukesh Chhabra revealed that among thousands of those who gave auditions, only 100 were shortlisted for the final audition, wherein they had to enact that scene where 'Yalina' would confront 'Hamza' after knowing the truth about him. As per Mukesh, he will release Sara Arjun's audition clip, and when he sent it to Aditya Dhar, he was also in awe, so much so that the director asked, 'kaun hai yeh?'
Mukesh revealed that Sara really gave a strong performance, and while initially they were thinking whether she would look a bit short, it didn't affect that much, and everything worked out for the best. As per Mukesh:
"Jab usne woh scene kiya, immediately I sent it to Aditya on WhatsApp. He said, ‘Kaun hai yeh?’ I said she's the new girl, she's just done a few ad films as a child actor, and a few films as a child actor. Initially, we were thinking, ‘Will she look short?’ That is a calculation in casting. But then we thought kahani ke saath woh correct lagega that he’s going there and he’s trying to woo that girl. That’s the whole point. She gave a kick-ass audition, I'm going to release that audition in the next one week and you'll know why we took that girl.”
There have been several theories about the movie, Dhurandhar. Some people wonder if the movie is based on real-life events and characters. Aditya Dhar himself shared that the movie was influenced by real-life and characters, but it's not based on real events or a biopic. Speaking of 'Yalina', reports claimed that it could be possible that her role was inspired by Maheen Gabol, the daughter of Pakistani politician Nabil Gabol. Reports claimed that Maheen was involved with one of the gang members of Uzair Baloch. Reports also revealed that after Nabil Gabol got to know about the same, he sent his daughter to Kuwait.
To add, Maheen Gabol, interestingly, got married on December 5, 2025, to Maula Bux Soomro, the grandson of the late Ellahi Bux Soomro, on the same day that the movie's first part was released, although it's just a coincidence. It cannot be confirmed whether 'Yalina's role was inspired by someone from real life or not, because it has also been said earlier that the movie is fictionalised and not a biopic.
