Michael Jackson's personal life was filled with unusual circumstances that the world discussed at length. But his marriage to his former wife, Debbie Rowe, always remained a mystery to his fans. Especially when it came to her bond with her two children and the King of Pop's children, Prince Jackson and Paris Jackson. Although Debbie is their biological mother, she never played a traditional role in their initial years. Instead, Paris recently opened up about meeting her mother for the first time in her teens.

Why did Debbie Rowe not raise her kids with Michael Jackson?

Debbie Rowe was a dermatology nurse who worked in Los Angeles in the 90s. She first met Michael Jackson during that time, and they gradually became close friends. Soon, their conversations revealed to Debbie that the pop star had a strong desire to have kids and become a father.

Since Michael Jackson was also divorced from his earlier wife, Lisa Marie Presley, she reportedly made him an offier. Debbie told him she would fulfill his dream of becoming a father. In turn, they got married in 1996 and became parents to Prince and Paris in the next two years.

Despite being in a legal marriage, Michael and Debbie's bond was far from conventional for a family. Instead, the pop star took complete responsibility for raising the children.

Soon Debbie and Jackson parted ways in 1999, a year after Paris was born. At the same time, she voluntarily gave him full custody of their kids. Later, Debbie explained the dynamic and her decision in many interviews. She admitted that she never saw herself as someone who wanted to be a typical mother.

Instead, Debbie believed that Michael was deeply committed to parenting. Therefore, she was confident that her kids would be best cared for by him. Moreover, she went away from the spotlight around Michael's life. Debbie had to take the call because the consistent media attention and public discussions about her made her uncomfortable. So, she had no choice but to choose a quiet, more private life.

Gradually, Debbie went completely off-grid. There were no more mentions of her in the media, and she has limited involvement in raising her kids. As a result, Prince and Paris spent more of their childhood with their father, Michael. Later, they were looked after by their grandmother, Katherine Jackson, following Michael's death in 2009.

Although Debbie was mostly absent from her kids' lives, she eventually reconnected with them in their teens. Some reports suggest that their bond has become strong over the years. Debbie has also built a friendship with Prince and Paris based on mutual understanding. Paris herself mentioned earlier that she enjoys spending time with her mother. In fact, she is surprised by their similarities. Paris has been open about the dynamic, but Prince has mostly kept it private. Unlike his sister, he never mentioned his interactions with his mother.

Paris Jackson recalled her first meeting with her mother at 15

Paris Jackson recently recalled meeting her mother, Debbie Rowe, for the first time at age 15. She sat down for a chat on Call Her Daddy and recalled how it was an impromptu meet. Instead, Paris mentioned that it was a casual meeting. She remembered greeting her with a simple, "Hey, mom" remark. In turn, Debbie had an equally relaxed greeting. Eventually, they spent time together and got to know each other.

The singer and actress explained that she had no expectations from Debbie during their meeting. So, she feels it helped them to naturally develop their bond. In fact, Paris believes that expectations can sometimes lead to disappointment. So, she prefers to approach situations that leave space to form genuine bonds.

Soon, the meeting grew into a meaningful friendship. Paris explains that she enjoys spending time with Debbie. She is also surprised to discover how similar her and Debbie's personal and musical tastes are. They even celebrated Mother's Day together, which shows how far they have come together after that first meeting. Although Debbie still lives out of the spotlight, they continue to have a good bond.
