Kim didn’t mince her words and openly criticised the casting. She claimed that the film will have more sexual appeal than an emotional connection due to the inappropriate casting choice.

Robert Malloy, who was widely known as Kim Novak’s second husband, was born in 1940. Before finding love in Kim, Robert was married to Joan Gundlach. Robert and Joan welcomed two children, a son named Beck Malloy and a daughter named Lisa Malloy. Robert was an equine veterinarian. In 1976, Kim tied the knot with Robert. It was the duo’s second marriage. Two years before their wedding, Robert met Kim when he came to treat her Arabian horse. The couple didn’t have any biological children.
Kim Novak met Robert Malloy in 1974. The duo had spent 44 years together as a married couple. However, their longest relationship came to an end in 2020, when Robert tragically passed away. At the time, he was 80 years old. The cause of his death is still unknown. Kim, who often referred to Robert as her 'soulmate', was grief-stricken due to the tragic loss. After Robert’s death, Kim tried to fight off her grief and found solace in painting. She told Closer Weekly US:
"I find my art is very prolific since my husband passed. I have a sense of him looking over my shoulder and watching me with that little smile on his face. Painting a picture of him felt like we could still communicate in a warm and intimate way. It made me feel less lonely."
Kim Novak is widely known for her iconic dual role in the 1958 American psychological thriller film, Vertigo. She played the roles of 'Madeline Easter' and 'Judy Barton'. In the film, detective, 'Scottie' (played by James Stewart) falls in love with 'Madeline' and tries to change her to 'Judy'. In the climactic scene, it was revealed that 'Scottie' is in love with an illusory woman, who doesn’t exist. Drawing parallels with the reel and real, Kim revealed that her late husband, Robert Malloy, wanted her to be a 'housewife'. The Irish Times quoted Kim as saying:
"It happens in every marriage. My husband, whom I adored, wanted me to be more like how he wanted me to be. But I have too much of an independent personality. I’d be off painting, and he wanted me to be more of a housewife."
Kim and Robert lived in their home in Eagle Point, Oregon, for more than four decades. On November 27, 2020, Robert passed away at their home. Sharing her grief, Kim posted a heartfelt note on her Facebook account on December 18, 2020. She paid tribute to her late husband, Robert, in the most loving way. In the note, the Hollywood icon recounted their sweet memories. She wrote:
"May I share just a bit of my grief with you? My soulmate has passed on to greener pastures. For forty-five years, we shared each other's love and adventures. Now I must learn how to be satisfied with all those incredible, indelible memories! Until we meet again, my Lov."
