Kiki Shepard is leading the headlines as the Showtime co-host passed away at the age of 74. Her death has come as a shock to many, and her fans are searching for everything about her. Be it film, television or stage, Kiki was a versatile performer. Kiki has been the co-host of Showtime at the Apollo from 1987 to 2002 and has been a fixture on American television for 30 years.
Born in Texas, Kiki attended Emmett Scott High School. She was a brilliant student in her school and even received a scholarship for her education. She went on to pursue a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Howard University. In the 1970s, Kiki’s career took off when she started as a professional dancer and performed around the globe. She was one of the dancers at the 49th Annual Academy Awards in 1977.
Kiki worked as an actress and voice artist in various Broadway theatre productions in the 1970s and 1980s. She also starred in the 1978 film, The Wiz. Kiki became a popular face when she co-hosted the show, Showtime at the Apollo, for 16 long years. During her time on the show, Kiki was known as the 'Apollo Queen of Fashion.'
She co-hosted the show alongside a rotating cast, which included Steve Harvey, Sinbad, Mo’Nique, Rudy Rush, Mark Curry, and Rick Aviles. The show helped introduce aspiring performers at the iconic Harlem theatre, highlighted their live performances, and gave a platform for emerging artists to showcase their talent.
During her time as a host on Showtime at the Apollo, Kiki also had recurring roles in shows like A Different World and Baywatch. She also appeared in shows like Lady Boss, Thunder in Paradise, Baywatch Nights, NYPD Blue, Family Law, Highly Favored, Mind Your Business and Grey’s Anatomy.
Apart from television, Kiki showcased her acting talent in films such as A Rage in Harlem, Miss Evers’ Boys, Dolls of Voodoo, and Blackjack Christmas. Her Broadway appearances included Bubbling Brown Sugar, Reggae, Your Arms Too Short to Box With God, and Porgy and Bess.
Talking about her personal life, not much information is available. However, the actress and host was married to a businessman named John A. Rogers in a private ceremony in 1989. She was also a stepmother to two children from her husband’s first marriage.
Kiki was recently honoured at the Skirball Cultural Centre on International Women’s Day Gospel Brunch on March 8, 2026. It was on March 17, 2026, when the news of her death surfaced in the headlines. As per her representative, LaShirl Smith, Kiki suffered a massive heart attack, which eventually led to her sudden death.
