Former Indian cricketer, Shikhar Dhawan, is currently leading the headlines after he gave love another chance after his failed first marriage. For many months, there had been speculations about Shikhar’s affair with Sophie Shine after the Irish woman was spotted with him during multiple matches. Shikhar Dhawan’s first wife, Ayesha Mukherjee, is an Anglo-Indian, born in West Bengal and raised in Australia. Her father is an Indian Bengali, and her mother is of English descent. Ayesha’s love of sports introduced her to cricket, football, and other major sports, but she found her passion in kickboxing. She is a trained kickboxer and a sports fanatic.
Before marrying Shikhar Dhawan, Ayesha was first married to an Australian businessman. She and her Australian husband welcomed two kids, Aliyah and Rhea. But soon, problems cropped up in their marital life, resulting in Ayesha Mukherjee’s divorce from her Australian husband.
Shikhar was scrolling through his Facebook feed when he stumbled upon Ayesha’s pictures and was bowled over by her beauty. It was Shikhar who had dropped a friend request to Ayesha, which she had accepted. Long Facebook conversations led to a budding friendship. Ayesha was 10 years older than Shikhar, and despite the age gap, the two got married in October 2012. In 2014, the couple welcomed their son, Zorawar.
In 2020, the couple went through a rough patch, and rumours surfaced that Shikhar and Ayesha were filing for divorce due to irreconcilable differences. In 2021, Ayesha Mukherjee announced her divorce from Shikhar Dhawan on her new Instagram page. According to a Bar and Bench report, Dhawan claimed that Ayesha demanded 99% ownership of three properties he had purchased in Australia. She also wanted to be the co-owner of his other properties.
Shikhar Dhawan and Ayesha Mukherjee’s divorce battle turned ugly after Ayesha allegedly sent defamatory messages to the CEO of the IPL franchise Delhi Capitals, Dhiraj Malhotra, to tarnish Dhawan's reputation. The cricketer then filed a plea in Delhi’s Patiala Court that his ex-wife, Ayesha, was circulating defamatory information about him, while tarnishing his reputation. In October 2023, the restraint was imposed on Ayesha from posting any derogatory content against Shikhar.
Ever since their separation, Ayesha moved to Australia, took their son, Zoravar, with her, and did not let Shikhar meet him. In October 2023, Shikhar was granted a divorce from his former wife, Ayesha, by the Delhi Court on the grounds of ‘cruelty’ and ‘mental agony’ inflicted on him by his ex-wife. The court had ordered Ayesha to bring their son to India for visitation purposes and also granted Shikhar mandatory visitation rights to meet Zoravar in India and Australia.
