Rebecca Gayheart recently shared the health status of her estranged husband, Eric Dane and how she is managing his health amid his ALS diagnosis.
Rebecca Gayheart has quietly stepped into one of the most challenging roles of her life, as her estranged husband, Eric Dane's, strongest support system amid his battle with ALS. Although they parted ways years ago, the actress has become the Grey Anatomy star's primary caregiver. Now, her role has become more demanding than ever as Eric's disease has rapidly progressed, requiring 24/7 medical assistance.
Recently, Rebecca Gayheart penned an essay for The Cut, revealing how she is not only managing round-the-clock medical care for Eric but also had to fight with the insurance provider to access the same. Amid the new update, here's everything you might want to know about Rebecca Gayheart.
Rebecca Gayheart, 54, first came into the spotlight during the early '90s as the "Noxzema Girl" before shifting into film and TV. She was a part of some of the biggest Hollywood projects, including Urban Legend, Jawbreaker, Scream 2, Beverly Hills, 90210, and Nip/Tuck. Additionally, Rebecca made a popular appearance in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Apart from acting, she has worked extensively in theatre and established herself in Hollywood before her personal life drew attention.
Despite her professional success, Rebecca's personal life has not been a smooth ride. She spent several years building a life with her husband, Eric Dane, with their two daughters, Billie Beatrice and Georgia Geraldine. All this while, she balanced her personal life with work, motherhood, and a complicated marital life before deciding to part ways with Eric.
Rebecca Gayheart and Eric Dane had a whirlwind romance before they tied the knot in 2004. They stayed married for over 15 years and welcomed two daughters before Rebecca filed for divorce in 2018. Although they parted ways and began living separately, they never legally finalised their divorce. Earlier in 2025, Rebecca dismissed the petition after Eric publicly announced he had been diagnosed with ALS in April 2025. For those unaware, ALS stands for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis that attacks nerve cells controlling muscles eventually leading to paralysis with no cure. Later, Rebecca reflected on their marital journey and admitted that they had a beautiful time while being married, but "lots of s** went crazy." They eventually had a complicated bond and romantically moved on, but remained legally married as a family. In her words:
"We separated, but we never got a divorce; we were about to and then we didn't. We haven't lived in the same home for eight years; he's dated other people, and I've dated someone. It's a very complicated relationship, one that's confusing for people. Our love may not be romantic, but it's a familial love."
At present, Rebecca Gayheart believes that her marriage to Eric is based on love, duty, maturity and shared parenthood. She believes they have presented a wonderful example of "compassion" and unity rather than a romantic reunion for their daughters. Although they no longer share a romantic bond, Rebecca called it "familial love" centred around loyalty and care. Meanwhile, Eric earlier admitted that he is still willing to work in any capacity despite his ALS diagnosis. Sharing his experience during a virtual panel with the I AM ALS organisation, he said:
"I'm fairly limited in what I can do physically as an actor, but I still have my brain, and I still have my speech, so I'm willing to just do anything. I'll take on any role."
