Janarious Mykel Wheeler, also known as Lil Poppa was a Jacksonville-born artist, died at the age of 25 in Georgia. The budding artist was building a strong momentum in his career, releasing new music and preparing for his upcoming performances, when he suddenly lost his battle for life.
Although there was initial suspense about his death, authorities and medical officials have now confirmed his official cause of death. But there is still a lack of clarity about the heartbreaking sequence of events that led to his death. Here's what we know about it.
According to the Hindustan Times, Lil Poppa was managed by CMG overall. But his manager appears to be Lil Jabril Daddy, whose Instagram bio reads that he is Lil Poppa's manager. However, Lil Jabril Daddy is with ShortStopEnt. His individual Instagram handle is "keep_on_pushin". Although there is not enough information about it, he appears to believe in Islam. His bio reads:

According to TMZ, the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed that Lil Poppa died from a self-inflicted g**shot wound to the head while he was talking to his manager. Subsequently, the officials ruled out his death as a s**cide, marking an end to all the widespread speculation about whether he died owing to his existing sickle cell anemia, an accident, or if there was some foul play to get rid of him. This confirmation came after initial reports stated only that the rapper had been pronounced dead in Georgia. However, authorities initially did not release details, prompting discussions among fans.

Hapeville Police Chief Bruce Hedley shared more details about the final moments of Lil Poppa's life. According to him, the budding rapper was involved in a single-car accident on Interstate 85 shortly before his death. The crash itself was not fatal, and his vehicle was drivable. In fact, after the accident, he reportedly called his manager to ask what he should do next. They arranged to meet at a nearby parking lot.
Later, Lil Poppa sat in his car while speaking to his manager through the window. During that interaction, authorities say he pulled out a h**dgun and s*ot himself. An off-duty police officer working at the hotel immediately called emergency services. Lil Poppa was soon rushed to Grady Hospital in Atlanta, where doctors pronounced him dead. Officials also confirmed that no suicide note was found. However, it hinted that he could have been facing some mental health issues.
Lil Poppa died at the age of 25, leaving a lot of his loved ones heartbroken. His family included his partner, a son, his parents, and siblings. After his sudden demise, some details about his family have been revealed. It includes his 23-year-old partner, Toie Roberts. She is an entrepreneur and CEO of Ashanti Beauty and Four Two clothing. She is the eldest daughter of rap mogul, Rick Ross, and the couple has a son, Kofi J'nar (often referred to as PJ). He was born in 2022 and is the only publicly confirmed child of the rapper. He has left behind loving parents and two siblings.
Lil Poppa had become one of the most promising young voices in modern hip-hop. According to Billboard, he connected with people through his raw storytelling and honest rap lyrics that told the tale of his struggles. It enabled him to build a strong fan base, and Lil Poppa signed with Yo Gotti's Collective Music Group and released several popular songs, including Love & War, Mind Over Matter, and HAPPY TEARS.
