Gucci Mane has been one of the pioneers of the early hip-hop and rap culture. However, recently, he made headlines after an alleged report stated that he was robbed and kidnapped by his fellow rappers. Federal investigators have alleged that the incident took place on January 10, 2026 (ET) at a recording studio in Dallas. Prosecutors claim the kidnapping and robbery were linked to a dispute involving 1017 Records.

So far, nine suspects have been named by the Department of Justice in the kidnapping of Gucci Main and arrests were made in Dallas, Memphis and Nashville. The case includes some big names, including Pooh Shiesty and Big30, along with several other co-accused. Authorities say the suspects forced victims at gunpoint to sign a contract release and stole valuables during the incident.

Gucci Mane was born on February 12, 1980, in Bessemer, Alabama. He was initially named Radrick Delantic Davis and helmed from a military family. His father was a former survivor and power plant worker who was stationed in Korea for two years. His grandfather also served in the army, including serving as a chef during World War II. His maternal grandfather was also in the military and served in the Pacific during the Second World War.

Despite his strong background, Mane found his calling in music and rapping. During his time at school, Gucci Mane would perform freestyle along with his friends and was well known amongst his peers. However, it was after his arrest in 2001 that he started performing professionally and released his first song, La Flare. He eventually released his first album, Trap House, in 2005, and there was no looking back. Ever since then, Mane has been a force of nature, accumulating immense wealth and accolades. As reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the rapper's autobiography, titled The Autobiography of Gucci Mane, which he wrote after his stint in prison, reached several bestseller lists at the time of its 2017 release.

According to reports, authorities have claimed that the motive was linked to a dispute involving 1017 Records and a recording contract. Investigators have alleged that a meeting was arranged in Dallas to discuss the contract terms. However, prosecutors claim the suspects forced a release from the label at gunpoint. Furthermore, officials have stated that electronic monitoring data, travel records, and surveillance footage link the suspects to the crime.

Who are the suspects involved in the Gucci Mane kidnapping case?

Federal prosecutors claim that the case involves rapper, Gucci Mane and a group led by Pooh Shiesty and Big30. Investigators have claimed that nine suspects carried out an armed takeover at a Dallas recording studio and held the victims at gunpoint, forced a contract release and stole cash, jewellery, and a Rolex watch. Along with Shiesty and Big30, the suspects also include Lontrell Williams Jr., Rodney Wright Jr., Lontrell Williams Sr., Kedarius Waters, Terrance Rodgers, Damarian Gipson, Demarcus Glover, Kordae Johnson and Darrion McDaniel.

Since the incident, the Department of Justice has revealed that eight out of the nine suspects were arrested in a coordinated operation across Memphis, Nashville and Dallas. One suspect remained at large at the time of the announcement. Authorities have further confirmed that the investigation began after the January 2026 incident, and the FBI and federal prosecutors spent three months collecting evidence before announcing charges. Officials said the case was supported by several law enforcement agencies, including the Memphis Safe Task Force and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Tennessee. 

What was the contract dispute between Gucci Mane and the other rappers?

Investigators allege that the suspects travelled from Memphis to Dallas for a meeting regarding a recording contract. Pooh Shiesty arranged the meeting with three music industry professionals. During the meeting, prosecutors say the suspects carried out an armed takeover of the studio. Authorities have further shared that Pooh Shiesty pulled out an AK-style pistol and forced one victim to sign a contract release from 1017 Records, while the other suspects pulled out guns and robbed the victims. It is also being claimed that one of the victims was choked until near unconsciousness, while others suffered minor injuries during the shakedown.

What evidence is being presented by the investigators?

After almost three months, investigators had accumulated enough evidence to arrest and try the suspects. According to a list issued by the investigators, it featured several types of evidence, including electronic monitoring data indicating that Pooh Shiesty was at the crime scene while he was supposed to be on home detention. Data for several cell phones and a license plate reader show the suspects travelled from Memphis to Dallas. Additionally, rental car records and surveillance footage from the studio and nearby locations further connect the suspects to the crime. However, that was not all; investigators also recovered fingerprints from the scene. Greyhound bus records also show them travelling back to Memphis, and social media posts show stolen items.
