Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleZZ Top drummer Frank Beard has been facing serious health issues. As a result, his Hollywood Bowl concert tour has been cancelled. A spokesperson for the band stated that members Billy Gibbons and Elwood Francis will continue the tour, and drummer Michael Monahan will temporarily take Frank's place. Well, it has been Frank's wife, Debbie who has been with him for more than forty years.
Frank Beard is best known as the steady drummer behind the famous American rock band ZZ Top. His professional life has been extensively documented, and very little is known about the lady he shared his life with, Debbie Meredith. Unlike many partners, Debbie has kept a very low public profile and preferred to keep her life private.
Frank Beard, in an interview with UltimateClassicRock.com, had mentioned that he had spent his first paycheck of USD 72,000 on drugs. He had mentioned enjoying the experience of being addicted to drugs in 1977, which had taken a toll on his health. It was during the early '80s that he was sent to rehab. In his words:
"I spent it on drugs every bit of it. I never had enough money to be a proper addict until, you know, '77, and then I accomplished that. The first time I ever did any drug at all was when I injected LSD. And, boy, I liked it. It was looking for God and that whole thing, you know. I really became a seeker of truth and all of that. The pills thing came about just from the workload."
Frank Beard's wife, Debbie Meredith, according to social media reports, stood by him when he was recovering from his addictions. The drummer was addicted to heroin, and consuming the same made him feel as if it was a "fucking vacation for the mind". A lot of information related to Debbie is limited as she likes to maintain an extremely private life. She has rarely given interviews but was with Frank when he had to go to a 30-day rehab. Frank, speaking about his month-long rehab, had said:
"At the back of my mind I knew that I needed to kick heroin, I needed to stop doing cocaine. I had done it all, and I couldn’t go any further. So I told band manager Bill Ham, ‘I’m going into a 30-day program.’ And he said, ‘All right, take as long as you need.’ So I went to a 12-step program; I just wanted to get sober. I wanted to be like people I admired that could sit home and watch TV and go to bed, and that was okay for them.”
Frank Beard and Debbie Meredith, according to reports, got married on November 11, 1982. The pair has been together ever since then and have been blessed with three kids. Frank and Debbie have had one of the longest-lasting marriages. Debbie never spoke about the years when she suffered in silence because Frank was addicted to drugs.
However, her long-lasting marriage with Frank has been proof that she always provided stability to him when he was dealing with addictions. Debbie, according to reports, has settled with Frank in Richmond, Texas. He believes in having a more settled family life, and she reportedly stays there with her kids.
Frank Beard did a lot of "bad things" in life and earlier, due to his addictions, had also fallen sick. Now, the latest update related to Frank's health has come at a time when he abruptly cancelled his show in Los Angeles. In a statement which was put on the band's social media page, Gibbons revealed:
"Insurmountable obstacles require canceling our Hollywood Bowl performance. Friends, fans and followers of ZZ Top are the best in the business, and the band is counting on everyone to bear with us for this brief interruption. It's true that we've been spending a lot of time on the road, and the more we're out there, the better it feels. It's a good time for us and for the generations of fans who appreciate what we do. We've been at it for quite a while, something like five decades."
