Emraan met Parveen in grade 9 and were good friends. Their friendship soon turned into love, and he started dating her when he signed his first film. Despite his immense fame as a lover boy image, steamy roles and serial kisser tagline, Emraan never left Parveen’s side, and she too was confident about her man’s honesty. Though Parveen never liked the attention, she never stopped supporting Emraan to pursue his dreams.

“She hasn't accepted it (this side of his job). We have hit a common ground. Right now there is a deal that we have... The deal is I take her shopping and she probably swipes the card close to seven-digit numbers."

Parveen Shahani’s parents were against their interfaith marriage

Parveen is a Hindu, while Emraan is a Muslim. After dating for three years, Emraan asked for Parveen’s hand from her parents, and they were sceptical because of their different faiths. Additionally, since her family was not from showbiz, they were not pleased with Emraan’s "serial kisser" tag. Like every parent, they too had their doubts whether he would be a good match for their daughter.

However, the actor tried to convince them by explaining the difference between his on-screen roles and his off-screen personality. He convinced Parveen’s parents, and the duo got married in December 2006. After four years of marital bliss, the couple welcomed their son Ayaan in 2010.

Everything was going great in Emraan and Parveen’s lives when suddenly, their world turned upside down. In 2014, their four-year-old son, Ayaan, was diagnosed with first-stage cancer. Both of them were shattered. They held back their tears in front of Ayaan and cried a river after locking themselves in a room.

Emraan once revealed that as parents, they felt guilty, and the actor asked himself, “Where did he go wrong”? In a throwback interview, Emraan revealed that there were no warning signs in Ayaan’s case. Speaking about the same, he revealed:

“There was no warning sign, there was no accompanying fever, there was no physical discomfort. There was only one thing that we missed as parents and that was the tumor that had grown on the left side was, there was a bump here and went unnoticed. We thought it (the tumor) was putting on weight and I think the first thing we felt was a feeling of guilt.”

It was Parveen, who, despite seeing her son take his chemotherapy at such a young age, made sure to hold her family. She took him to the hospital and his chemo sessions when Emraan was shooting for films. In an interview with The Times of India, Emraan revealed:

“My wife was a huge support system, even while she was dealing with a lot of her own stuff. I had to come back for films, and my wife was there with him alone. The way she handled it – she is very strong – and due credit to her. Our relationship and bond got stronger.”
