Rapper-turned-politician Balendra Shah, who is popularly known as Balen, has taken oath as Nepal’s 47th Prime Minister. The 35-year-old was elected leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party's parliamentary party and became Nepal's youngest elected prime minister. Moments before his oath-taking, Balendra dropped his music video, Jai Mahakali, which instantly went viral. As Balen becomes the youngest PM, let us look at the woman behind his success, his wife, Sabina Kafle.
Sabina Kafle is a name popular among the masses in Nepal. She is a renowned poet and author whose works have resonated with Nepal's youth. Though she pursued Public Health studies at Noble College in Kathmandu, Sabina chose to make a name for herself in the literary world. Her introspective poetry has connected her with the people of Nepal. Sabina is the author of the novel Deepalta, and her honest writing made her stand out and garnered her huge popularity.
As they say opposites attract. But in Balen and Sabina’s case, their shared love for art and culture acted as cupid. His inclination towards music and poetic rap gravitated him towards meaningful writing. While Sabina had been sharing her poems online, Balen came across them and was instantly attracted to them.

He was already awestruck with her writing, but it was her simplicity which drew him towards her. Soon they fell in love and, within a year, decided to get married.
In February 2018, Balen and Sabina got married in an intimate ceremony attended by their close friends and family. Their wedding was not a gala or star-studded celebration. It was rather a simple and private ceremony. In 2023, Balen and Sabina hopped into parenthood and welcomed their daughter. Though they are popular figures in the literary and political arenas, they keep their personal lives out of the media glare.
Balen Shah is a popular figure in Nepal even before he entered the political arena. He began his career as a rapper and ran a construction business. He later joined politics and won the 2022 Kathmandu mayoral election as an independent candidate. In 2026, he contested the general election and had a historic victory, becoming the 47th Prime Minister of Nepal. Throughout his highs and lows, Sabina stood like a pillar of strength and became his biggest supporter. Their union is the perfect example of a modern partnership.
