Katie Couric shared that she experienced transient global amnesia (TGA), a rare condition that causes sudden but temporary memory loss. The incident occurred on June 27, 2026, when they were in Aspen, Colorado. Although she successfully moderated a journalism event.
Later, Katie realised she had no memory of several hours, including the event itself. Meanwhile, her husband, John Molner, has noticed that something was wrong and when she seemed confused and struggled to answer.
When he took her to the doctor, they initially feared that she suffered from a stroke. But scans ruled it out. Instead, they diagnosed her with transient global amnesia. Katie later explained that her memory returned the next day. But she still could not recall those hours from that afternoon. She also shared that during the incident, she could not recall the current year and even forgot her grandchildren's names.
The incident occurred four years after Katie Couric successfully underwent treatment for early-stage breast cancer, which included surgery and radiation sessions.
Katie Couric's family is at the centre of her life. She married attorney Jay Monahan in 1989, and they welcomed Ellie and Carrie before his death from colon cancer in 1998 at 42. Eventually, in 2014, Katie tied the knot with financier John Molner after they met through a mutual friend. Later, they co-founded Katie Couric Media, where John oversees operations and Katie leads editorial and creative projects.
