The recently released show, The Testaments is based on Margaret Atwood's novel of the same name. It follows two teenagers, 'Agnes' (Chase Infiniti) and 'Daisy' (Lucy Halliday), living in Gilead. Despite coming from different backgrounds, the two get trained to be obedient members of the society; however, they eventually get involved into a clash against the government. The story also follows 'Becka', who is 'Agnes's' friend.
Season 1 of The Testaments ends on an emotional note. In the final episode, which was dropped on May 27, 2026, 'Becka' faces serious consequences due to her actions against Gilead's system. This puts 'Agnes' and 'Daisy' on line, who need to decide if they want to save 'Becka' or not. Another shocking moment comes when 'Daisy' reveals that she is the biological daughter of 'June'. For those who do not know, all the episodes of the show are available on the streaming platform, Hulu.
A few days before the finale episode of The Testaments dropped, the makers of the show took to social media, to renew it for another season. They stated, "A secret we couldn’t keep any longer. THE TESTAMENTS will be back for Season 2 on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+. #TheTestaments." It is worth mentioning that the post instantly went viral, leaving fans excited. One fan commented, "What a truly blessed day it is indeed." Another user penned, "Let’s go!!!!!!!!! Congratulations to the cast and crew!" A third user wrote, "YES! The best show I’ve seen in a while."
Despite the announcement, the release date of The Testaments Season 2 has not been revealed. However, a few reports suggest that the new season might be released in late 2027 or early 2028. It is worth noting that the reason behind the renewal is its viewership. Reportedly, the show has crossed 45 million streaming hours.
While no details about the upcoming season have been revealed by the makers, it is clear that it might get picked up from where Season 1 left. While Season 1 focused on 'Agnes' and 'Daisy' being obedient and learning how Gilead controls women, Season 2 might show them fight for their friend, 'Becka' to save her from the leaders. Apart from this, a cameo by Elisabeth Moss as 'June' is also expected. Rowan Blanchard, who plays Shunammite Hayes, once spoke about Season 2 in a conversation with Teen Vogue. She explained:
"I think, for the most part, she really wants to get pregnant and be married. That's what she wants. So I wonder what will make her crack a little bit."
Talking about the cast, fans can expect the main cast to return in The Testaments Season 2. Even though details have not been shared, reports claim that Chase Infinite, Lucy Halliday, Ann Dowd, Rowan Blanchard, Mattea Conforti, Brad Alexander, Isolde Ardies and more are expected to reprise their respective roles. Apart from this, there are chances of new additions and a few interesting cameos as well.
