The Duggars became a household name in America, thanks to their reality TV days when TLC documented the conservative supersized family. The TLC show, titled 19 Kids and Counting, documented life in a household of 19 children led by Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar. When the show started in 2008, it was titled 17 Kids and Counting, which eventually became 19 Kids and Counting after the birth of Jordyn-Grace (December 2008) and Josie (December 2009). The other siblings of the household are Josh, Jana, John-David, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joseph, Josiah, Joy-Anna, Jedidiah, Jeremiah, Jason, James, Justin, Jackson, Johannah, and Jennifer.

However, after multiple controversies, including the patriarch's alleged infidelity and the 2015 scandal involving the oldest sibling, Josh Duggar, the show had to be cancelled. While the Duggar family keeps returning to the headlines time and again for its scandals, when it comes to the women of the family, fans have nothing but great things to say, thanks to their close-knit bond and wholesome nature. Take a look at what the famous Duggar sisters have been up to since stepping away from the cameras.

Jana Marie Duggar is the oldest daughter and the second-eldest sibling of the Duggar family, born with her twin brother, John-David, in January 1990. From her time on the reality show, Jana has been a second mom as she raised her younger siblings. She has largely been featured throughout the show's run till 2015, and then again in the spinoff series, Counting On, which ended in 2021. Since then, she has chosen a quieter, more independent life.

The eldest Duggar sister had been single for a long time while raising her siblings. While she largely stayed out of the spotlight after Counting On, she again made headlines in 2024 when she married her long-time partner, Stephen Wissmann, in a classic and elegant wedding ceremony in Prairie Grove, Arkansas. Jana defied her family tradition by becoming the first woman to be pregnant at a later age (35), unlike the other women of the Duggar family.

Jill Duggar Dillard, aka the rebel voice of the family

Jill Michelle Duggard is the fourth child of the family, who has long been outspoken about her stance. Instead of conforming to her heavily conservative family customs, she became a rebel, wearing pants instead of dresses and later speaking openly about her upbringing in the household. Now married and a mom, she lives with her husband, Derrick Dillard, and their three sons, in the Oklahoma–Arkansas border.

Jill got married in 2014, and the event was covered by TLC at that time. She has since distanced herself from her family and refuses to bend to their traditional rules. She is outspoken, drinks alcohol, has a nose ring, and even tried her hand as a swimwear model. In 2023, she exposed her Catholic family's "fear-driven ways" and cult-like practices in the Prime Video docuseries titled Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets. She even documented her experience in her memoir, Counting the Cost.

Jessa Duggar Seewald leads a family-focused life now

Unlike Jill, Jessa has stayed closer to the Duggar lifestyle and has built a large family of her own with her husband, Ben Seewald. The fifth Duggard sibling married shortly after Jill in November 2014, in a wedding attended by 1,000 guests, which was also covered by 19 Kids and Counting. Within a year of the wedding, she and Ben welcomed their first child, Spurgeon Elliot Seewald, in 2015.

Their second child, Henry Wilberforce, arrived in February 2017. The couple later welcomed two daughters, Ivy Jane in May 2019 and Fern in July 2021. The family grew again in December 2023 with the birth of their fifth child, George Augustine, and welcomed their sixth child, Edward Owen, in August 2025.

Jinger Duggar Vuolo and Joy-Anna Duggar Forsyth have embraced new lifestyles

Jinger Nicole Duggar is the sixth child of the Duggar family, born in December 1993. She has also distanced herself from the teachings she grew up with and openly documents her transformative journey with her husband, Jeremy Vuolo, a former Major League soccer player. The couple now lives in California with their children, Felicity, Evangeline, and Finnegan. They host The Jinger & Jeremy Podcast, discussing family, faith, reality TV, and every life. Through her books, including Becoming Free Indeed, she has spoken about unpacking her past and redefining her faith.

Joy-Anna, the ninth child of the Duggar clan, is now a mother of three and leads a happily married life with her childhood sweetheart, Austin Forsyth. Shortly after their 2017 wedding, the couple welcomed their first child, Gideon, in February 2018, followed by daughter Evelyn Mae (August 2020) and son Gunner (May 2023). The family lives in Arkansas, where Austin continues his home-building profession, and the couple chronicles their life on the Follow the Forsyths channel on YouTube.

What about the younger Duggar sisters?

The younger Duggar girls, including Johannah (20), Jennifer (18), Jordyn-Grace (17), and Josie (16), have largely stayed out of the spotlight in recent years. Johannah's birth in 2005 was featured in the television special titled Raising 16 Children, but she has since grown up in private. The youngest sister, Josie Duggar, was a premature baby, and her birth story was covered on reality TV. Now a teenager, she is growing up quietly at home, and she reportedly loves music and shares a deep connection with children and animals.

Despite the controversies surrounding the Duggar family, the Duggar sisters have always held a special place in the hearts of fans. Most of them have successfully broken the chain of questionable family traditions and some have opened up about the grim reality behind those flashy smiles.
