When the mysterious murder of 'Monsignor Jefferson Wicks' happened, Detective 'Benoit Blanc' steps in to investigate. Will there be a fourth instalment of the much-loved Knives Out franchise?

In October 2025, a month before the selective release of Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, there were reports saying that the director, Rian Johnson, had not yet thought of the fourth instalment of the film, Knives Out franchise. But by November 18, 2025, a week before the selective theatrical release, the director had dropped a major hint about the upcoming sequel.

In an interview with Hollywood Reporter at the Los Angeles premiere of the third instalment, Rian shared that he is creatively energised after the release of the third film. He also revealed that he and Daniel Craig had a discussion about the new film. He was quoted as saying:

"Creatively, I feel energised after making this one. Daniel and I are already starting to formulate … what could the next one be if we do another one?"

During the same interview, Rian Johnson expressed his wish to bring another set of newcomers as he does for each Knives Out film franchise. For Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, the filmmaker has brought up Josh O’Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny and Daryl McCormack.

However, it is Daniel Craig who has become the heart of the franchise, and when he steps in to solve the mystery, it adds more charm to the film. So, for all three films, Daniel is the common face that the audience will meet each time. Rian also ensures that each time the audience gets to experience a fresh tale of mystery. The filmmaker was quoted as saying:

"I don’t know why I would stop doing it if we could keep making them."

The first instalment of the mystery film franchise was Knives Out. It was created in 2019. This was the first time that Daniel Craig stepped in as Detective 'Benoit Blanc'. Within 3 years, the makers brought the second instalment, Glass Onion, in 2022. The first film that was made on a budget of USD 40 million earned over USD 311 million worldwide.

After this massive success, the OTT giant streaming network, Netflix, bought the exclusive rights to the two sequels of the film franchise for over USD 400 million. So, if the fourth film of the franchise arrives, the makers may find a new distributor, as the Netflix two sequel contract is over.
