It was in November 2023 when Vir Das made India proud by winning the 2023 International Emmy Award for Best Comedy Series for his comedy special, Vir Das: Landing, on Netflix. As soon as he confirmed the news by posting a lovely picture with the Emmy trophy, a series of celebrities and his Instagram family of 1.3 million people bombarded the comment section of his post with their lovely congratulatory wishes.

It was on November 21, 2023, when Vir Das took to his Instagram handle and posted two lovely pictures with the Emmy trophy, which he won at the 51st International Emmy Awards. While Vir Das could be spotted posing with his trophy in the first picture, he was posing alongside Reg Tigerman and Akash Rajkumar Sharma in the second picture. Along with the pictures, Vir Das penned a lovely note in the caption, and it could be read as:

Soon, a series of Bollywood celebrities started pouring their lovely congratulatory wishes towards the stand-up comedian. Vir Das' educational qualifications: From studying in Nigeria to pursuing the Stanislavsky Program offered by Harvard University

The ace stand-up comedian, Vir Das was born on May 31, 1979, in Dehradun to his parents, Ranu Das and Madhur Das. The comedian spent his growing-up years in Nigeria and India. While he completed his early schooling in Nigeria at the Indian Language School in Lagos, Vir Das went to study at The Lawrence School, Sanawar and Delhi Public School, Noida.

For higher studies, Vir Das took admission to the Sri Venkateswara College, University of Delhi. But after only 18 months, he went to the US, where he took admission into Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois. Following this, Vir Das joined the prestigious Stanislavsky Program offered by Harvard University and Moscow Arts Theatre. The global educational trajectory shaped him as an artist and broadened his horizons, which helped him in his craft.

On November 22, 2023, Vir Das posted two pictures with the Emmy trophy, but the first picture caught everyone's attention. The reason behind it was quite emotional, as Vir Das was posing alongside a dishwasher stand.

The stand-up comedian penned a short note atop the picture in which he mentioned how he once used to work as a dishwasher during his struggling days. The note could be read as:

"So. We win an Emmy. We're walking through the kitchen to the press room. We walk by the dishwasher stand. My manager Reg says, "You remember you were once a dishwasher right? This is where you take a photo." My fav photo of the night."

It's incredible to know how a youngster, who was once working as a dishwasher is now an International Emmy Award winner. For the unversed, in the past, Vir Das has repeatedly opened up about his struggling days. Once, in an interview, he shared how he was doing three low-paying jobs all at once due to financial struggle. However, after years of hard work, Vir Das managed to get into the film industry and Indian stand-up space.

When Vir Das made an alleged controversial joke about former President, APJ Abdul Kalam

It was back in 2015 when Vir Das indulged in a serious controversy after he cracked a joke about India's former President, APJ Abdul Kalam, during a live show in Delhi. Soon after his joke during the show, someone in the audience called the cops and complained about Vir Das' joke about APJ Abdul Kalam.

After some time, cops entered the venue, and the comedian went through a lot of trouble. The matter was resolved soon, and even Vir Das admitted that he never disrespected APJ Abdul Kalam and even revealed that in his eyes, the former President is one of the coolest Presidents in India's history, as he had a good sense of humour.

Vir Das' controversial monologue, 'Two Indians: I come from two Indias'

The stand-up comedian, Vir Das indulged in one of the most serious controversies of his life when he uploaded a comedy special video titled, I come from two Indias, on his YouTube channel. The video was from his stand-up at the John F Kennedy Centre in Washington, DC.

The six-minute clip explores India's dualities and addresses ongoing economic and societal issues. However, it started a lot of heated debates on social media. From Indian politicians to young netizens, everyone shared their remarks on social media. However, with time, the matter was settled, and Vir Das' monologue is still considered as one of the most controversial stand-ups in Indian comic space.

Vir Das is married to a girl named Shivani Mathur

It was in October 2014 when Vir Das got married to his longtime girlfriend, Shivani Mathur. If the reports are to be believed, Vir and Shivani met for the first time at former's housewarming party, as Shivani was the event manager of the party.

After a series of meetings, they fell in love with each other and got married in 2014. Since their marriage, Shivani has been handling Vir's shows. As per reports, Shivani and Vir got married in an intimate wedding on a Sri Lankan beach with their close friends and family in attendance. The couple has no kids at the moment.
