Jana Nayagan is Vijay Thalapathy’s most-awaited film. The political action thriller is Thalapathy Vijay's last film. It is worth mentioning that Vijay’s Jana Nayagan has been going through a lot before its worldwide release. From CBFC censor delays to reportedly facing bans in Saudi Arabia, Jana Nayagan has been the centre of many controversies. Ahead of the worldwide release on May 8, 2026, the upcoming political action thriller starring Vijay Thalapathy, Bobby Deol and more landed in fresh trouble.
While the fans of Thalapathy Vijay were cheering loudly for Jana Nayagan’s worldwide release, the trouble doesn’t seem to end. According to the latest reports, residents of a village near Madurai have now staged a protest against the last film of actor-turned-politician, Vijay Thalapathy. They carried black flags and gave slogans against Jana Nayagan. The reason behind such a protest is a bit personal.
As per their complaint, there are some scenes in Jana Nayagan that show their community in a bad light. The protesters highlighted that the way their area has been shown in the political action thriller does not reflect reality. They shared that if the film gets released worldwide, then it will damage the image and reputation of their community. The protesters added that before the worldwide release of Jana Nayagan, the makers must address the misinterpretation.
Although director, H. Vinoth dismissed the rumour about Jana Nayagan being a copy of Nandamuri Balakrishna’s hit film, Bhagavanth Kesari, a large section of social media users aren’t convinced by the fact. Earlier, in 2026, during a media interaction, H. Vinoth debunked the rumours about Jana Nayagan, a remake of Bhagavanth Kesari and said that it is the film of Vijay Thalapathy. He also highlighted that the people who think it’s a remake will think otherwise after one show ends. He was quoted as saying:
"This is a Thalapathy film. Some people might think this is a remake and wonder why they should come and watch it. A few might even get angry. To them, I’ll say just one thing: Please wait until one show ends. You’ll get your answer. People who are coming to watch the film don’t need to worry about whether it’s a remake, whether a few scenes are inspired, or whether it’s just one scene."
Vijay Thalapathy has stepped into the shoes of the protagonist, 'IPS Thalapathy Vetri Kondan'. Bollywood actor, Bobby Deol is the antagonist. Pooja Hegde stepped in as the female lead. Alongside Vijay Thalapathy, Bobby, Pooja, the film also stars Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain and Priyamani.
Jana Nayagan marked the end of the actor-turned-politician’s 33-year-long acting career. The film is directed by H. Vinoth. The political action thriller starring Vijay, Bobby, and Pooja in lead roles is produced by KVN Productions. The film is made on a high budget of Rs. 380 crores. Amid this, Jana Nayagan’s release in Saudi Arabia is still uncertain. Earlier, this year, in January 2026, multiple reports surfaced claiming that Jana Nayagan is allegedly facing a ban in Saudi Arabia.
Now, if the reports are believed to be true, then it will be a major problem for the makers as Vijay Thalapathy holds a strong market in Saudi Arabia after the UAE. In fact, Saudi Arabia is considered to be one of the top territories where Thalapathy Vijay enjoys a strong market within the GCC circuit.
