Vijay Thalapathy's last film, 'Jana Nayagan', is finally releasing worldwide. The actor-turned-politician will have a face-off with Bollywood actor, Bobby Deol in the film.
Vijay Thalapathy’s much-awaited film, Jana Nayagan, is finally releasing in theatres near you. Yes, you read it right. After facing numerous challenges, including bans, the film will hit the big screens soon. Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan is said to be Vijay's last film. According to the latest reports, Vijay is currently actively in politics and contested his first elections on April 23, 2026, as the leader of his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Amid the buzz, find out when the film is releasing.
Jana Nayagan, the highly anticipated political thriller, revolves around 'IPS Thalapathy Vetri Kondan' (played by Vijay Thalapathy). While Vijay has stepped into the shoes of the protagonist, Bobby Deol has stepped in as the antagonist. Amid the buzz surrounding the film, rumours are rife about Jana Nayagan being the remake of Bhagavanth Kesari starring Nandamuri Balakrishna.
Although director, H. Vinoth dismissed the rumour, a large section of social media users still believe it is a remake of Nandamuri’s Bhagavanth Kesari. Now, if you are wondering when the film is releasing in theatres, we’ve got you covered. According to the latest reports, the political action thriller, Jana Nayagan, is releasing worldwide on May 8, 2026.
Earlier, this year, in January 2026, Jana Nayagan director, H. Vinoth sat for an interview with Ananda Vikatan. During the conversation, H. Vinoth couldn’t stop himself from praising the Bollywood actor, Bobby Deol. He criticised the Bollywood industry for not utilising Bobby properly. He addressed Bobby as 'action-hero material'. Vinoth highlighted that Bobby acted so well in the film, Jana Nayagan, that he couldn’t imagine. He also lauded his acting skills and expressed his wish to work with the Bollywood actor in a Hindi action film. He was quoted as saying:
"I don’t know how Hindi cinema let go of Bobby Deol for so long, because he is pure action-hero material. When writing certain characters, we often wonder how they will come across on screen. In this role, he performed far better than I had ever imagined. Bobby is naturally quiet, but on screen, he scores big and leaves a strong impact. If I get a chance to make a Hindi film, I would definitely want to do an action film with him. That’s how much I liked working with him."
Now that Jana Nayagan is gearing up for its worldwide release, its release in Saudi Arabia is still uncertain. In January 2026, multiple reports claimed that Jana Nayagan is allegedly facing a ban in Saudi Arabia. If the reports are believed to be true, then it will be a major problem for the makers, as the actor-turned-politician holds a strong market in Saudi Arabia after the UAE.
As Jana Nayagan is made on a high budget of Rs. 380 crores, it would be crucial to see whether the political action thriller will be released in Saudi Arabia. For the uninitiated, Saudi Arabia is considered to be one of the top territories where Thalapathy Vijay enjoys a strong market within the GCC circuit.
Alongside Vijay Thalapathy and Bobby Deol, Jana Nayagan also stars Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain and Priyamani. Now that a large section of social media users believe Jana Nayagan to be a remake, here’s what director, H. Vinoth said. Earlier, this year, in 2026, during a media interaction, H. Vinoth called Jana Nayagan Thalapathy Vijay’s film. He addressed the people who believe that Jana Nayagan is a remake and said that they might think otherwise after one show ends. In his words:
"This is a Thalapathy film. Some people might think this is a remake and wonder why they should come and watch it. A few might even get angry. To them, I’ll say just one thing: Please wait until one show ends."
