Vaa Vaathiyaar, the highly anticipated film starring Karthi, is finally releasing on the big screens on January 14, 2026. The action-comedy faced a legal battle, and now that the old financial dispute has been resolved, Karthi is all set to entertain the audience with his on-screen charisma. Alongside Karthi, the film also stars Krithi Shetty, Sathyaraj, and Rajkiran in key roles. Now that the action-comedy is all set to release in theatres, let’s have an early review of the film.
The story of Vaa Vaathiyaar revolves around a die-hard fan of veteran actor, MGR, who raises his grandson, 'Ramu', with the hope that when he grows up, he will be a carbon copy of the legendary actor. However, when 'Ramu' becomes an adult, he takes up the job of a police officer, 'DSP Rameshwaran'. He is fun loving and carefree officer. However, his life takes an unexpected turn when his own ideology and his grandfather’s long-time wishes to see him as MGR come into conflict, putting his grandfather in danger.
Speaking about what to expect in the action comedy, Vaa Vaathiyaar, the director, Nalan Kumarasamy, told Cinema Viketan that the film is a proper action masala film that the audience witnessed in the 80s and 90s. He also shared key details about the plotline of the comedy-action, Vaa Vaathiyaar. The filmmaker was quoted as saying:
"I wanted to make a proper action masala film, like the ones we used to get in the 80s and 90s. The story revolves around an MGR fan who believes his grandson shares a special connection with MGR. As time passes, the boy grows up to become Ramu (Karthi), a fun-loving, easygoing police officer. He forms a close friendship, but certain unexpected events put his grandfather’s life in danger. The film is about how Ramu transforms after that turning point."
Ever since, the makers announced that Vaa Vaathiyaar is finally releasing on January 14, 2026, there has been a huge buzz surrounding the film’s release. According to a report by Times Now, Karthi called himself 'lucky' to be part of the film, Vaa Vaathiyaar. The actor mentioned that the character he played on-screen was a challenging one. He highlighted that this role was a new experience for him. Karthi added that he is confident that he acted well in the action comedy, Vaa Vaathiyaar. In his words:
"The film takes place in a fantasy world. I am very lucky to have got the opportunity to act in this film. It is a challenging character. Playing this role is a new experience for me. Only when we do difficult characters can we move to the next level as actors. I am confident that I have acted well in this film too. I am lucky to have the opportunity to do different films. Just as Tamil and Telugu fans celebrated the film 'Meiyazhagan' earlier, they will enjoy this film as well."
