According to reports, Trying Season 5 is all set to premiere on July 8, 2026, on Apple TV+. Fan favourite couple, 'Nikki' (played by Esther Smith) and 'Jason' (played by Rafe Spall), are returning with the new season. The new season will consist of eight episodes and will drop weekly every Wednesday.
Before Season 5 premieres, here's what you need to know about Trying Season 4. Season 4 jumps ahead by six years. 'Nikki' and 'Jason' are no longer trying to adopt children. They are currently focusing on raising the two teenagers, 'Princess' and 'Tyler'. Season 4 follows the everyday challenges of parenting older kids. 'Princess' wants to meet her biological mom, 'Kat'. She is a bit curious about her past and where she came from and more. However, she didn’t tell 'Nikki' about the following at first and instead asks her aunt, 'Karen', for help.
This move by 'Princess' creates secrets and tension within the family. Eventually, 'Nikki' gets to know this and goes to Spain to find 'Kat' before 'Princess' can. 'Nikki' does find 'Kat', but the latter refuses to talk about her past and leaves the spot. When 'Nikki' returns home, she lies to 'Princess' by saying that she couldn’t find 'Kat' only to protect her from disappointment. Meanwhile, 'Jason' discovers a new passion in football coaching. By the end of Season 4, he decides to change his career and become a football coach.
Season 4 ends on an emotional note. By the end of Season 4, 'Princess' accidentally finds a photo of 'Kat' on 'Nikki's' phone. This deeply hurts her as she realised that 'Nikki' lied to her about her biological mother, 'Kat'. As the mother-daughter duo try to work through the betrayal, 'Kat' unexpectedly arrives at the door of their house. This creates more tension inside the family.
Season 5 will kick off exactly from where Season 4 ended. As 'Nikki' and 'Jason' are raising the teenagers, 'Princess' and 'Tyler', a new challenge is already knocking at the door. The biggest change comes when 'Princess' and 'Tyler's' biological mom, 'Kat', enters their lives. Her sudden arrival brings up many pent-up emotions and creates tension in the household.
While 'Princess' and 'Tyler' are curious about their biological mom, 'Kat', the couple, 'Nikki' and 'Jason', are worried about her presence as it could affect the family they have worked so hard to build. Season 5 is expected to find the balance between every character and their equations. Like previous seasons, Season 5 will also have many funny and emotional moments. However, this time the emotional challenges are much bigger.
On June 9, 2026, Apple TV released the trailer for Trying Season 5 on YouTube. Fans are super excited for the new season. A user wrote, "Can't wait. I'm always happy when Apple TV sticks with these shows and gives viewers multiple seasons, rather than cancelling shows after a season or two like some other streaming services.
