Jenna Bush Hager is married to Henry Hager, and the couple is only two years away from celebrating their twentieth marriage anniversary. While they have been together as husband and wife for eighteen years, their relationship began much earlier. Henry was working as a staff assistant to Karl Rove, senior advisor to Jenna's father, former President George W. Bush. The duo met back in 2004, reportedly on the presidential campaign trail for George W. Bush.
Reportedly, their friends introduced them during a football game, and they started as friends and soon began dating. By the 2005 Presidential Inauguration, they were officially a couple. For Jenna, her first date with Henry was the worst ever. Yes! Back in 2023, speaking on Today, Jenna revealed that the first time they went out, his car ran out of gas, and they hit the Secret Service. Sharing more about her 'worst first date', Jenna said:
"His car ran out of gas and went backward and hit the Secret Service. He started to go up the hill and then boop, crash. I was laughing, but he was horrified."
Just three months into their dating, Jenna Bush had already ended up asking Henry to marry her. He responded with a 'no', but eventually, in 2007, he popped the question during one of their trips. The couple then got married the next year at her family's lakeside ranch in Crawford, Texas. Over the years, Jenna and her husband Henry's bond continued to grow even stronger. On their 13th wedding anniversary, the author-journalist shared an emotional post, wherein she revealed that she loves her husband with all of her heart.
Jenna Bush Hager and Henry Hager, although they began with the 'worst first date' and a 'no' to a marriage proposal, only after 90 days of dating, kept their relationship, something of a rather smooth ride. The couple shares three kids.
Jenna and Henry welcomed their first daughter, Margaret Laura "Mila" Hager, in 2013. She is named after both of the couple's mothers. Jenna once revealed an interesting fact that Margaret was born right in the middle of her baby shower. Speaking about the same, she revealed:
"I felt like my stomach was going 'blop blop,' and somebody across me goes, 'Girl, you're going to have that baby right now.' And then it was like, three, two, water break. Henry thought we were playing a joke on him, because Barbara and I had ganged up on him."
In 2015, Jenna Bush welcomed her second daughter, Poppy Louise Hager, with Henry. Just like their first daughter, their second daughter's name also had a wonderful meaning, as her first name honors Jenna's grandfather, i.e., 41st U.S. President, George H.W. Bush, whose childhood nickname was 'Poppy'.
Poppy Louise Hager honors both sides of her parents' family, as it is inspired by the middle names of the couple's grandmothers, Louise and Lewis. In 2019, Jenna and Henry welcomed their third child, Henry Harold "Hal" Hager. According to the Today co-host, it was a C-section delivery for her.
