The couple decided to end their marriage after two years. Mikayla shared the news on social media through a heartfelt video post, describing her feelings regarding the split. She also addressed the buzz around the reason for her and Cody's big decision, asking her fans not to believe any gossip sites that might cover the news of her separation. She shared that they still "love each other so much" and would be there for each other whenever required. Cody deserves to be happy. Cody deserves to be happy. So do I. This is an extremely s**tty thing. No one gets married to get a divorce. Absolutely no one. But what I can tell you is that this is very amicable."

In a TikTok video, she recalled that she was about to delete the app when she came across Cody's profile and decided to swipe right. At the time, Cody had recently moved from Nevada to Massachusetts to seek addiction treatment. Mikayla initially hesitated because his profile lacked clear photos of his face, which she considered a potential red flag. They chatted through the app for several weeks before meeting in person on January 23, 2021. It was "love at first sight" for Mikayla, who felt an immediate and powerful connection with Cody.
Cody Hawken's genuine care and support for Mikayla solidified her feelings for him, and she eventually chose him as her better half. After about a year of dating, Cody proposed to Mikayla on November 20, 2021, at the Boston Public Garden. He recreated their first date, leading her to the exact bench where they sat before. There's a lot of crying, there's a lot of emotions. But I'm still gonna show up every day, and I'm still gonna do my cute little Valentine's Day videos I do every year, and nothing to really change it on the work side."
