The story of Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey follows the ancient hero, 'Odysseus', the king of Ithaca, and his long journey home after the Trojan War. The Trojan War lasts for 10 years, but even after it ends, 'Odysseus' doesn’t return home for another 10 years. During this phase, he faces many dangers and obstacles. Back in Ithaca, everyone believes that 'Odysseus' is dead. Meanwhile, his wife, 'Penelope', is being persuaded by 108 men to remarry her and become the king.

However, 'Penelope' doesn’t want to remarry and tricks her suitors. She gives a condition to them that she will choose a husband after she finishes weaving the shawl. But every night she secretly undoes the day’s work, delaying the decision. 'Odysseus' and 'Penelope's' son, 'Telemachus', goes on a journey to look for his father. Along the way, he learns that his father is alive but trapped on an island by a nymph named 'Calypso'. Greek gods, 'Athena' and 'Zeus' join hands to free 'Odysseus'.

However, the god of the sea, 'Poseidon', is angry with 'Odysseus' and keeps making his journey troublesome by causing storms and wrecking his ships. During this phase, all of 'Odysseus's' crew die. 'Odysseus' is the only survivor. When 'Odysseus' returns to Ithaca after 20 years, he disguises himself as a beggar. He secretly reunites with his son, 'Telemachus'. 'Odysseus' is even recognised by his old loyal dog, which dies peacefully after seeing his master alive.

Will Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey have a sequel?

Christopher Nolan has not yet announced that there will be a sequel to The Odyssey. However, a report by The Pop Verse pointed out that the original Greek epic, The Odyssey, has an ancient follow-up named The Telegony. Although, The Telegony is not Homer’s work, it exists only in fragments. As of now, fans of Christopher Nolan’s films are excited for The Odyssey. Cinephiles who attended the London premiere shared their reviews on X (formerly Twitter). A movie critic wrote:

"Christopher Nolan somehow keeps raising the bar. THE ODYSSEY is one of the biggest, most epic movies I’ve ever seen. It’s got massive battles, incredible IMAX visuals, and feels like a true myth brought to life, but underneath all of that it’s really about one man trying to get back home. That’s what hit me the most. Matt Damon absolutely owns the role of Odysseus. You feel every loss, every mistake, and every victory with him. Anne Hathaway is fantastic as Penelope, and Tom Holland surprised me in the best way. He’s proving he can be much more than Spider-Man."
