Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleChristopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is scheduled to arrive in theatres on July 17, 2026. The movie features an ensemble cast and is adapted from the Greek poet Homer’s epic, Odyssey. The film has created headlines before its release due to certain controversies linked to the casting and the historical inaccuracies. However, the advance booking figures are hinting that it will take a big opening, adding another successful movie to the list of Nolan’s filmography.
The Odyssey is Christopher Nolan’s next big film after Oppenheimer, which also had a good run at the theatres in 2023. The upcoming fantasy action film will be released in IMAX theatres and has been shot in IMAX 70 mm film cameras.
Following the premiere of the film on July 6, 2026, critics shared their reactions, with a majority of them praising everything that they saw. Considering that, the expectations from the box office are also sky-high, and the current situation has hinted that the movie will get a good start, leading to some big numbers by the end of its theatrical run.
The initial predictions in June 2026 were reported to be between USD 80-100 million. But the graph started going up at the beginning of July 2026 as the predictions touched the mark of USD 100-120 million. Another source stated that the opening could be USD 132 million, or it could be USD 98 million on the low end.
The prediction numbers are comparatively higher than Oppenheimer, which started at USD 82.4 million. It also included the collections recorded from the previews. Since The Odyssey has a long runtime of 2 hours and 52 minutes, the number of screenings is going to be low. But the film’s arrival in IMAX and other premium formats is expected to bring some benefits.
As mentioned, The Odyssey will be released in IMAX and other premium formats. While the domestic opening is supposed to be between USD 85-100 million, additional collections worth USD 110 million are expected from other territories, leading to worldwide collections of almost USD 200 million.
Another report has claimed that the BFI IMAX in London has sold out all the screenings of the films for the next two weeks. BFI IMAX also added two extra screenings per day after excessive demand, along with the usual four screenings. This included midnight shows along with eight shows in the morning.
Michael is currently the highest-grossing film of 2026, with domestic collections of USD 371.6 million and worldwide numbers of USD 991.7 million. Considering that Michael is expected to touch the mark of USD 1 billion, Nolan’s film needs to surpass that number or earn USD 900 million worldwide to take its position in the list of the highest-grossing films of 2026.
The Odyssey will focus on the story of the Greek king, 'Odysseus,' who attempts to reunite with his wife, 'Penelope,' after the Trojan War, while meeting a lot of mythical beings in his journey. Matt Damon and Anne Hathaway will appear as 'Odysseus' and 'Penelope,' respectively. The movie has a lineup of other talented faces like Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, Benny Safdie, Jon Bernthal, Himesh Patel, and more.
