As per Kirk's daughter, he was battling metastatic kidney cancer until he took his last breath on July 3, 2026. Recalling his death, Kirk's daughter, Sarah Gordon told The Telegraph:
"My dad had a remarkable way of making people feel seen, valued and protected. Whether you were family, one of his students, or someone like Taylor whose path crossed his, he cared deeply about people. That's the legacy he leaves behind."

For those who do not know, Kirk Schwabe had a significant impact on Taylor Swift’s career. Kirk first served as a Chicago police officer. After his retirement, he moved to Tennessee and began teaching criminal justice at Hendersonville High School. The Bad Blood singer attended the same school from 2004 to 2006.
During this time, Kirk was not just Taylor's teacher but also a father-figure to her. Later, when Taylor decided to pursue music, her father asked Kirk to join her team as a security guard. Kirk agreed to it and travelled with Taylor during the early stages of her career. However, he eventually stepped back. Kirk once spoke about this and said:
"I said, 'Taylor, look, I'm burnt out, I can't keep up. I think you're better [off] getting a professional security guard to come and protect you. I still love you; we're still on good terms, but I can't do it anymore."
Coming to his personal life, Kirk Schwabe was married to Jane. However, not much information is available about their relationship or married life. As per a report by The Telegraph, Kirk’s wife, Jane once spoke about the former’s relationship with the singer and shared, "He treated her like he did his daughters."
A few days before Taylor Swift got hitched to the love of her life, Travis Kelce, The Telegraph had a conversation with the singer’s former teacher, Kirk Schwabe. During the conversation, when he was asked about Taylor and Travis’ wedding, the late educator shared that he trusts the singer’s choice. He said, "I do trust Taylor's judgment. She knows what's best."
Taylor and Travis tied the knot on July 3, 2026, at the Madison Square Garden, in New York. Their wedding was a grand celebration attended by nearly 1000 guests including Selena Gomez, Benny Blanco, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Ed Sheeran, Paul McCartney, Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Patrick Mahomes and more. Reportedly, the ceremony was officiated by Adam Sandler. For the big day, Taylor chose a gorgeous Christian Dior wedding gown, whereas the NFL icon opted for a black tuxedo.
It is worth mentioning that as of now, neither Taylor nor Travis has shared the official photos from their intimate wedding ceremony. However, a few glimpses have been leaked by the guests.
