Michael’s sudden demise has led to a lineup of tributes on social media. Amid this, his personal life has also come into the spotlight, specifically his marriage to Susan.
Although Michael Wright preferred to keep his personal life away from the limelight, a few things remained in public view, including his marriage to Susan Wright.
Susan is active on Instagram with more than 1,000 followers. Notably, her Instagram bio says that she is a talent manager with an experience of over 20 years. The bio also has a link to the website of the company, Apollo Talent Management. Apart from all these, Susan’s early life, educational background, and more remain unknown.
Susan frequently shared pictures with her husband on various occasions. She posted a snap with Michael in 2022 and wrote:
“Michael Wright and yes his lovely wife me.”
The same picture was added in the Instagram post, which confirmed the news of Michael’s death on August 21, 2026 (ET). The post included a few more photos of Michael. The entire statement was shared by Madina Milana, who tagged Susan on the same post. The caption reads that additional information about Michael’s life, legacy, and the plans to honor and celebrate him will be revealed in the upcoming days. The post also said:
“Many knew and loved him through The Five Heartbeats, The Wanderers, V, The Principal, Streamers, and the many other characters he brought to life throughout his remarkable career. His talent, presence, and contributions to film and television will live on, but to those of us who loved him personally, he was so much more than the roles the world knew him for.”
Born on April 30, 1956, in New York City and trained at the New Lincoln School, Michael Wright began acting in the late 1970s. He built his reputation with intense, charismatic performances.
Notably, Michael’s breakthrough film role came in Robert Altman's Streamers in 1983, where he played ‘Carlyle.’ The performance won him the Volpi Cup for Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival. On television, Wright was known to sci-fi audiences as ‘Elias Taylor’ in the NBC miniseries V and the two follow-ups, V: The Final Battle and V: The Series.
He later made a cameo in an episode of Miami Vice, which aired in 1987. Wright's most famous role was in Robert Townsend's musical drama The Five Heartbeats in 1991. He portrayed ‘Eddie King Jr.,’ the talented but troubled lead singer.
He was featured in films like The Wanderers, The Principal, and Sugar Hill. In the 2000s, he became well-known as ‘Omar White’ on the HBO series Oz and later as 'Lazarus Prime' on The CW series Black Lightning. He was last seen as ‘Willie’ in the 2025 film Dope King.
