In a throwback interview, Sunny Deol talked about the alternate climax of the 1997 film, 'Border', and revealed why it was deleted.
Sunny Deol’s much-awaited film, Border 2, is all set to get released on January 23, 206. The remake of the 1997 film, Border, would surely awaken the patriot in everyone and would be released a few days before Republic Day. Border 2 will feature a strong cast, which includes Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, Ahan Shetty, Sonam Bajwa, Mona Singh, and more.
The original film, Border was based on the Battle of Longewala during the 1971 Indo-Pak war and is still remembered decades later. When Sunny Deol appeared on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, he spoke about the 1997 blockbuster, Border. When asked about his favourite scene from the film, he recalled that it was very emotional and didn’t make the final cut.
Speaking about the scene, Sunny revealed that it took place in a modest temple, where he saw firelight coming from a bunker. As he approached the bunker, he witnessed all his slain soldiers sitting around the fire. Sunny then delivers an emotional monologue, assuring them that he will look after their families, repair their home's damaged roof, and take care of their loved ones. In his words:
“Mai unse baat karta hoon ki tu fikar na kar, mai tere ghar aake teri chhath laga di, mai jaake teri maa nu mil lita hai. For me they are dead and I am telling them ki tum log jis duniya me ho, wo Jannat hai, wahaan kahi ladai nahi hoti. Wo mai padta tha, jaise abhi rona aa raha hai, waise rona aa jaata tha. Itna payara scene tha wo.”
As Sunny Deol spoke about the emotional scene, he couldn’t hold back his tears as it had a huge impact on him. In the same conversation, he revealed why the scene couldn’t make it to the final cut. The actor stated that, since the film’s duration had become excessively long, the producers had no choice but to delete the last scene.
The 1997 film, Border, was a cult classic, directed by J. P. Dutta. The film featured strong performances from an ensemble cast, including Akshaye Khanna, Sunny Deol, Tabu, Pooja Bhatt, Rakhe Gulzar, and many more. And among the stellar cast, Sunny Deol was the highest-paid. Sunny played the titular character of ‘Major Kuldeep Singh’ and was paid a whopping sum of Rs. 1.2 crore.
