Shefali Shah's ex-husband, Harsh Chhaya, revealed that he went on multiple dates after his divorce from the actress in 2000.
Delhi Crime actress, Shefali Shah has been married to director, Vipul Shah for like almost two decades now. Well, before Vipul came into her life, the actress was earlier married to actor, Harsh Chhaya. Both of them had worked together in Hasratein. They married in 1994 and separated in 2000. Both went through a difficult phase in their lives, and the actor recently revealed that he went on multiple dates after his divorce.
Shefali Shah's ex-husband, Harsh Chhaya, sat down for an interview with Lallantop and revealed that he went on many rebound dates after his divorce from Shefali. Harsh revealed that when a situation like divorce comes, one needs to try to stay sane, even if one is uncomfortable, and live with it. He did not show himself to be strong, lived with it for 5-6 months, regretted, shouted, etc. Harsh Chhaya confessed to going on rebound dates and said:
"One day, I saw that you are under stress, everyone around you is willing to listen to your story, and share their views. Once I spoke to someone, we discussed each other’s issues, and later we went on a date; it happened a few times and I made it a formula. I went on multiple dates over 2-3 months. It takes time, you don’t have to show your bravery, rather show what you are feeling.”
Shefali Shah's ex-husband, Harsh Chhaya, opened up about his views on divorce and revealed that it is seen as taboo. Many are stuck in a marriage for years. Speaking about divorce, Harsh shared that it is a very personal, case-by-case matter. His and Shefali's case was pretty clear. In his words:
"I could see that the relationship was hitting a dead end. When I was told, I cannot stay with you anymore’; 8-9 months before that, I knew this was coming. I was prepared. For me, even though I know what is happening, at that moment I don’t let it affect me mentally, so I focus on work, on myself, because I left Delhi and came to Mumbai for this. Personally, how one deals with it depends on them. I fortunately come from a space where I don’t get shaken easily.”
Harsh further revealed that two people can’t stay together 24/7. He cannot live with his clone for 365 days. For him, divorce is not a big deal; in fact, if it has to happen, it should happen sooner rather than later, so the relationship is not dragged. The actor shared that, when they had decided, they had their application backdated, declaring that they had been living separately for six months. The ex-pair acted on it very quickly.
It was in 2024 when Harsh Chhaya sat down for an interview with Siddharth Kannan and revealed that his separation was pretty tough. It is an old story now. 20-25 years have gone by. For him, it is now a closed chapter. Earlier, in an interview with the Hindustan Times, Harsh revealed that he was hurt by the divorce. The separation did not take him by surprise. He had seen it coming for almost eight months, and still, he looks back at it pragmatically. In his words:
"Two people met, fell in love, got married, and parted ways. One couldn’t do anything about it. I felt it was better to separate than live a life where you don’t know where your marriage is going. After feeling bad and gathering enough sympathy for myself, I finally got out of it in six months.”
