Serayah McNeill posted a lengthy statement on social media on Monday, August 24, 2026, saying she made the "difficult decision" to end things with Joey Bada$$, the father of her child. The actress shared that she loved him deeply and believed that they were building something, but his repeated infidelity left that shattered.
The actress claimed that Joey chose to betray her at some of the "most vulnerable and meaningful moments" of her life and left her to make the tough call. In a since-deleted Instagram Story, Serayah McNeill got much more heated and said that Joey "needs to be shown for exactly who he is" and called him a "literal piece of s***" over how she says he treated her behind the scenes.
Joey and Serayah first crossed paths in 2021 while attending their friend's birthday party on a boat. At the time, in a conversation with ESSENCE, Joey said, "I saw her and I remember thinking to myself like, 'Wow, I've never seen a woman so beautiful. She was just strikingly gorgeous, and her aura was just kind of radiating." However, at the time, he admitted he had played it off as a "silent thought."
Nonetheless, Serayah McNeill was also taken aback by his "mysterious" persona, as in a conversation with the publication, she called him "very magnetic. And something about him also spoke loudly without speaking at all." However, it wasn't until a year later that the media began linking the two. The couple first made headlines in March 2023, when Serayah appeared in Joey's music video for Show Me. The rapper was quick to shut the rumors down at the time.
However, he clarified in an interview with xoNecole that same month that the two were just friends. He teased that "things could happen," and a few months later, in another interview, Joey publicly confirmed his relationship. The rapper posted an Instagram Reel of the pair enjoying a beach getaway in June 2023, writing in the caption, "happy birthday my love." Things soon got serious between them, and in February 2025, Serayah revealed that she and Joey were expecting their first child together.
The actress shared the news at a fashion show for lingerie brand Adore Me, where she showed off her baby bump as she walked the runway. A month after they welcomed their baby, Joey proposed to Serayah. Talking about welcoming her first child, she told ESSENCE:
"It feels so surreal; every day, I am amazed at what my body is capable of. I'm so excited to start this new chapter in my life, and I'm looking forward to all of the adventures that come along with it. We are both in love with the idea of expanding our family together. It's a blessing to be able to share these moments and be in harmony about it all."
Talking about their age gap, Serayah McNeill was born on June 20, 1995, whereas Joey was born on January 20, 1995, making him a few months older than the actress.
