Tension soared high as a fight broke out during the closing minutes of Saturday night's NBA showdown between the Memphis Grizzlies and Miami Heat at Kaseya Centre in Miami. The players who made the headlines worldwide were none other than Myron Gardner and Scotty Pippen Jr. Despite the Miami Heat's victory, the win was overshadowed by Myron and Scotty's big fight.
The fight broke out in the closing segment of the game when the Miami Heat was leading by a double-digit score in the fourth quarter. They were about to win over Memphis, when in the last two-minutes, an altercation broke out between Scotty Pippen Jr. and Myron Gardner. Scotty shocked fans when he shoved Heat forward, Myron, into the stands. He was soon pulled-apart from the situation, and both were ejected from the game.
After the situation, Gardner came from the backcourt and collided with Pippen, and he was knocked to the ground. However, it was considered foul play as Pippen rose, but he had his eyes on Gardner. The shoving match forced the teammates to get into the picture, and they were separated and thrown out of the game.
After regaining his composure, Pippen Jr. approached Gardner, and they had a heated conversation after which Pippen shoved Gardner in retaliation. The force was so great that they fell on the sideline seating area. That's when arena personnel and players intervened to stop the altercation. This could have led to automatic suspensions under NBA rules. Security and team staff ensured fan safety, and no injuries were reported.
However, social media users quickly read between the lines to understand what led to this heated altercation between Scotty Pippen Jr. and Myron Gardner. Some fans speculated that Gardner might have said something about Pippen's mother, Larsa, who was sitting in the stands to watch her son play. One user wrote, "Bro definitely said something about Larsa Pippen."
Other netizens also expressed their support for Scotty Pippen Jr.'s actions and slammed the referees for allowing the situation to get out of hand. Another commented, "I see nothing wrong with what Scotty did." A third user penned, "Yeah Scotty was definitely in the right." A fourth netizen wrote, "Legit if the ref does his job, this dust up never happens. This ref is just trying to run out the clock and swallow his whistle, and this how dudes get hurt." A fight one penned, "That's the ref's fault. Pip took things into his own hands."
After the Miami Heat won the game, head coach Eric Spoelstra decided to take a stand for his player in the post-game media session. He stated that he loves Myron and doesn't know what happened on the 3-point shot. He added that he just saw Pippen fall and he blamed Pippen for the fight. He was quoted as saying:
"We love Myron. I don’t know what happened on the 3-point shot,” Spoelstra told reporters. “I just saw Pippen fall. I just saw the play after that and that looked like 95% Pippen. Lets just see what it is. I love Myron regardless."
