The post was shared on the occasion of Mother’s Day. Although Sandra Bullock is single after the death of her partner, Bryan Randall, in 2023, she was married once to entrepreneur and television star, Jesse James, in the past. Sandra Bullock and Jesse James’s love story started back in 2003. Notably, Sandra took her godson, Bryan, to a garage called West Coast Choppers for Jesse’s show, Monster Garage. Bryan had been a fan of Jesse for a long time, and James used to prepare custom motorcycles in the garage. The motorcycles were reportedly sold at around USD 300,000.
Sandra and Jesse tied the knot two years later in 2005. The pair organised a private ceremony in California. Jesse already had three more children from his past marriages to Karla James and Janine Lindemulder. Jesse and Karla had divorced three years before the former’s marriage to Bullock in 2002. On the other hand, James was married to Lindemulder between 2002 and 2004.
In 2009, Sandra Bullock and Jesse James managed to get the custody of another child of the latter, Sunny, born from his marriage to Janine. The news came around a year after Janine was sentenced on charges of tax evasion in 2008. Sandra had previously shared her experience of looking after Jesse’s kids in 2007, saying that she was “married into children” and she loved them. She further stated:
“My concern and my love for those kids as a co-parent is no less than if I had that child biologically. I don’t see the difference between that and having your own child biologically. My priorities are love, my want, my wishes for them, my discipline, my rules, my fun, is because of my children. I have them… I feel for the children I have in my life and I would not change that.”
Jesse James came into the headlines in 2010 when a cover story by Touch magazine claimed that he had an affair with a model named Michelle “Bombshell” McGee for multiple months. The affair reportedly happened when Sandra Bullock was busy with her work. Shortly after the allegations emerged, Sandra cancelled her appearance at the premiere of her film, The Blind Side. Warner Bros. shared a statement on Sandra’s behalf, where she apologised to everyone. Jesse later apologised in a separate statement, saying that he needs to be blamed for everything that has happened. James also dismissed the allegations against him and continued:
“This has caused my wife and kids pain and embarrassment beyond comprehension and I am extremely saddened to have brought this on them. I am truly very sorry for the grief I have caused them. I hope one day they can find it in their hearts to forgive me.”
Although Sandra Bullock did not share a direct response to the cover story claims, two other women came up with claims linked to Jesse James. The first one, whose identity remains unknown, alleged that she and Jesse had an affair for two years and that they had slept together. The second woman was a photographer named Bridgitte Daguerre, who said that she had evidence in the form of text messages to prove her alleged affair with Jesse, which started in 2008.
A month after the allegations surfaced, a woman named Merilee Gerth filed a lawsuit against Jesse James on charges of sexual harassment after they had an affair. Sandra Bullock was then spotted going hiking, and her wedding ring was missing in some photos acquired by Entertainment Tonight.
In April 2010, Sandra Bullock filed for divorce from Jesse James. She confirmed the news while speaking to PEOPLE, saying that she was sad and scared at the same time. Apart from this, she revealed that she adopted a son named Louis. Sandra said in the conversation that she decided to keep the adoption process a secret, and it started around four years ago after her marriage to Jesse James. Bullock continued by saying:
“We began the conversations and then all the paperwork, the background checks, the home visitations about four years ago. We didn’t want to go at it any other way than the way everyone else would have to do it. There are hoops, but the hoops are there to protect the child. And worth every jump.”
When the allegations against Jesse James emerged in March 2010, he joined a rehab in Arizona to get help with his personal problems. Jesse returned from the rehab in April 2010 and shared a statement with PEOPLE in the same month. James said that he has taken many hard decisions over the years, and among all of them, ending his marriage with Sandra Bullock and letting her look after Louis on her own was the hardest. Jesse said that he loves Louis and continued:
“Sandy is the love of my life, but considering the pain and devastation I have caused her, it would be selfish to not let her go. Right now it is time for me to beat this addiction that has taken two of the things I love the most in life. I have always taken great pride in proving people wrong. That time has come once again to show that I am not what everyone says I am. I know in my heart that I can be the best father possible to my four children, and the mate Sandy deserves, and realize that this is an incredible mountain to climb.”
Jesse ended the statement by requesting everyone not to judge Sandra Bullock for everything that she had done. James even clarified that his ex-wife was not wrong and that she is not associated with everything that happened between them. Apart from that, Jesse described Sandra as an “amazing wife, mother, and best friend,” while recalling the memories of the time they spent together.
