Recently, Sagarika Ghatge and Zaheer Khan opened up about their interfaith marriage and the respect they have for all religions.
Bollywood actor, Sagarika Ghatge and former Indian cricketer, Zaheer Khan have been one of the most admired couples of the industry. They have often kept their personal life away from the spotlight. For those who do not know, the couple has been married for eight years. Well, recently, the duo opened up about their interfaith marriage and how Sagarika was against marrying a cricketer.
Recently, Sagarika Ghatge and her husband, Zaheer Khan sat down for a candid conversation with Harbhajan Singh and Geeta Basra on their podcast, Who’s The Boss?, during which Sagarika revealed that she was not interested in marrying a cricketer or an actor. However, she further continued that her entire perception changed after meeting Zaheer. Later, Zaheer stated that he never had any problem with marrying an actress. He was quoted as saying:
"Even if Sagarika was not an actress or something else, it would not have mattered. We cricketers, we never look at it that way."
Further, Zaheer Khan explained that he knew Sagarika for a long time as they had common friends; however, he was scared to ask her on a date as he was always given a “red alert”. He shared that all of Sagarika’s friends told him that “if you’re going in this direction then you have got to be serious”.
Further, in the same podcast, Sagarika and Zaheer opened up about their interfaith marriage. While talking about respect for other religions, cricketer, Harbhajan Singh praised Zaheer and shared that he is always the first one to light a lamp during the Ganpati festival. Talking about the same, Zaheer Khan revealed:
"My parents have taught me to respect all religions. You should do what makes you happy and not worry about what people are saying. If she respects something then I also need to have that respect because we are in marriage together."
Further, the Chak De! India actress explained that she has grown up doing Diwali puja, Gudi Padwa Puja and more, so she likes to do the same after marriage also. Sagarika Ghatge mentioned that Zaheer has a lot of respect for the same and is a part of the festival more than her. In her words:
"I have grown up doing Diwali Pooja, Gudi Padwa Pooja, because I’ve seen my mother do it so I have continued doing that. He has utmost respect for that, in fact, he is a part of it even more than me."
Zaheer also spoke about the first meeting he had with Sagarika’s parents. The former cricketer explained that Sagarika had scared him a lot because her parents are “progressive yet traditional.” However, Zaheer revealed that the first meeting was very good. He further stated that he was supposed to meet for only 30 minutes, but he ended up talking for more than two hours to her parents.
For those who do not know, Zaheer Khan was one of the most respected former fast bowlers. On the other hand, Sagarika Ghatge is a Bollywood actress, who has appeared in the iconic film, Chak De! India, alongside Shah Rukh Khan. Reportedly, Zaheer proposed to Sagarika in Goa, during a break in the IPL season. And in 2017, the duo tied the knot with each other.
