Throwback to a time when Ranbir Kapoor remembered his first date with his then-girlfriend, Deepika Padukone, which proved him to be an ideal boyfriend!
Deepika Padukone’s relationship with Ranbir Kapoor has been quite often spoken about. The duo’s both on-screen and off-screen chemistry had become the talk of the town back then. While their love story remained incomplete as they broke up a few years later, even today, they continue to be friends while moving on in their lives. Well then, here’s a throwback to a time when Ranbir Kapoor proved to be the ideal boyfriend as he dated Deepika Padukone.
While the ex-couple has moved on and has settled in their lives with their respective spouses, there was a time during their dating period when Ranbir remembered with vivid details the outfit worn by Deepika on their first date together. For the unversed, this was the time when Ranbir and Deepika were shooting for their respective debut films and had just been introduced to each other through their common friends. Ranbir had called Deepika out on a lunch date to the Grand Hyatt hotel which was followed by a movie date and a long drive. Recalling exactly what Deepika wore for their day out, Ranbir in an interview, once mentioned:
“I clearly remember she was wearing a white ganji and white linen pants. She had her hair tied up in a bun.”

On the other hand, Deepika had quite a different take on the outfit her then-beau, Ranbir chose to wear for their first date ever. It seems that she was quite upset with Ranbir’s choice of footwear for the same, which were absolutely beyond her taste. In her words:
“I don’t remember really. He was wearing layered clothes: a T-shirt and a half sleeve shirt on top of it. Oh, how can I forget the ugly shoes that he had worn? What are those shoes called?”
While the breakup of Ranbir and Deepika was unforeseen for many, it was however with time that even the couple themselves accepted it and moved on in their respective lives. While initially, there was a bit of apprehension and a feeling of estrangement on both their parts, they gradually outgrew it and let bygones be bygones. Ever since, both Deepika and Ranbir have looked upon their past as a learning phase and continue to remain good friends. In an interview, Ranbir Kapoor had once opened up on how he visualises his past with Deepika and mentioned it would be a cherished memory for him always. In his words:
“I feel I have grown as a person. I have spent one and a half year with that person and that person has only added to my growth. I will cherish that experience with her because I have learned so much about life, commitment. You value commitment even more from these relationships. But I am not a commitment phobic. I have really just not met that person who I really want to settle down with."

Deepika Padukone had hit the headlines when she immortalized her love for then-beau, Ranbir Kapoor by getting herself a tattoo on her neck that featured Ranbir’s initials, RK. However, even after their breakup, Deepika was spotted with the same tattoo for quite some time, which made people question her about it frequently. However, it was her ex-beau, Ranbir who had once slammed a reporter for continuously pestering his ex-flame, Deepika about removing the same. In his words:
“I think yeh bahut hi kamaal ka behuda sawaal hai. Deepika ne tattoo promotion ke liye nahi lagaya hai. It’s really, really silly and I really pray for you ke aap jab jayenge waapas office mein toh they welcome you with open arms as a hero that you asked this question at this press conference. We also have a life, we have a personal life. When you ask a question like this and when Deepika will reply, that will become a news article. So I think it’s best that you could also have a little bit of dignity at a press conference and not bring up questions like these. I am sorry if I’ve stepped the line like this."
Moving on in her life after breakup with Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika wedded her Ramleela co-star, Ranveer Singh on November 14, 2020 in a destination wedding in Italy’s picturesque, Lake Como. Upon arrival back to their Mumbai base, the couple hosted a lavish wedding reception on November 28, 2020, which turned out to be the most lavish celebration ever. Deepika and Ranveer had invited almost everyone from the film fraternity, which also included the former’s ex-boyfriend, Ranbir Kapoor. However, RK gave it a miss, and interestingly, Deepika was not at all surprised. Speaking about it in an interview with Filmfare, she mentioned:
“We’ve not spoken. I mean, we spoke before the reception but we have not spoken after. But, that’s him. I’m not surprised at all. But, that’s the relationship we share and that’s the beauty of that relationship; so much is said without saying much at all.”
