Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleRamayana is all set to premiere in November 2026, and fans are over the moon with excitement. However, amid the buzz, fans were a little uncertain about Ranbir Kapoor essaying the role of 'Shri Ram'. However, with the release of the film's first song, Jai Jai Ram, they seem a little more certain about the makers' decision.
Ramayana is not just a story but a sentiment that has united millions of people. Devotees don't see the epic as just a literary work; they see it as part of their own story, so when Nimit Malhotra decided to adapt the Ram Katha into a film, it was obvious everyone would have an opinion. And apparently, the first thing netizens agreed on was their uncertainty about Ranbir Kapoor playing the role of the revered ruler.
Since the teaser of the film was released earlier this year, netizens have been divided about his casting as 'Ram'. However, it appears that the actor has finally made a breakthrough with the audience. Ranbir Kapoor seems to have won over a section of the viewers after the release of the film's first song, Jai Jai Ram. While the actor's casting previously sparked immense criticism and debate, several social media users have now pointed out that the actor does look good in the role.
After the release of Jai Jai Ram, many social media users pointed out that Ranbir Kapoor might not be the wrong pick for the role. They admitted that they may have been quick to judge the makers' decision to cast the actor as 'Shri Ram'. For the unversed, the first song from the film was released on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi and gives the audiences a closer look at Ranbir Kapoor as 'Lord Ram' and Sai Pallavi as 'Sita'.
Composed by AR Rahman and sung by Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal, the song showcases several important moments from the epic, including the mesmerising wedding of 'Ram' and 'Sita' along with glimpses from the revered ruler's journey. Soon after the song was released, a user wrote, "Never doubt Ranbir Kapoor absolutely Peak casting." Another said, "Ranbir Kapoor's only competition is Ranbir Kapoor himself." A user in a long note penned:
"The chemistry of Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Sai Pallavi as Maa Sita feels absolutely divine and mesmerising. Jai Jai Ram is so soothing to the soul—Shreya Ghoshal and Arijit Singh have given it such a beautiful depth. And Kumar Vishwas' lyrics. #Ramayana."
Fans pointed out that Ranbir Kapoor's portrayal of 'Shri Ram' was deliberately restrained, shifting the ongoing dismay over the casting decision. Users shared that the actor showed calm body language, controlled expressions, and a composed presence. They also shared that after seeing Ranbir in these glimpses, they're certain the audience is in for a performance built more on "dignity than dramatics".
