Pooja Bhatt was in a steady relationship with Ranvir Shorey. Despite being best of friends, they had a bitter and highly-publicised breakup.
Pooja Bhatt, a name that hardly needs any introduction, is one of the most prolific actresses and filmmakers. She made her acting debut at the age of 17 with the film, Daddy, directed by her father, Mahesh Bhatt. Later, with films like Sadak, Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin, Junoon, Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee, Chaahat, Tamanna, and many more, Pooja had become one of the most loved Bollywood actresses of the 90s.
Soon, Pooja transitioned behind the camera when she was one of the highest-paid actresses. Despite her bright future in acting, Pooja moved behind the camera, focusing on producing and directing films. In 2003, Pooja Bhatt produced the blockbuster film, Jism. She made her directorial debut in 2004 with the film, Paap, after which she made four more directorial ventures like Holiday, Dhokha, Kajraare and Jism 2.
Just like Pooja Bhatt’s professional life, her personal life too gained a lot of attention lately. She has dated Bobby Deol, Fardeen Khan, and Ranvir Shorey, and later married Manish Makhija. Their marriage lasted only 11 years, and the duo called it off soon after. However, out of all her relationships, Pooja’s affair and ugly breakup with actor Ranvir Shorey grabbed the headlines.
Pooja Bhatt and Ranveer Shorey were good friends before their relationship turned romantic. After they fell in love with each other, they started living together. If reports are to be believed, Ranvir and Pooja were in fact engaged to each other. Soon their relationship turned sour and it was alleged by Pooja that the reason behind it was Ranvir’s drinking bouts.
Pooja Bhatt and Ranvir Shorey’s relationship turned ugly after she accused him of physical abuse. Pooja once shared that she was in a relationship with an alcoholic who used to beat her up. Pooja claimed that Ranvir would become violent in a drunken stupor, leading to several unpleasant incidents.
Amid the allegations levied by Pooja Bhatt, Ranvir Shorey spoke in his defence and revealed that just like any normal couple, they too had their fair share of highs and lows. In an interview with Rediff.com, Ranvir highlighted Pooja’s abusive nature towards him and shared that she turned abusive without drinking and would indulge in a scuffle with him 30 times a day.
The actor, in the same interview, shared an unpleasant incident when they decided to part ways. Recalling the same, Ranveer shared that during one of their fights, Ranvir decided to call off their relationship and started packing his bags to leave the house. The actor then narrated how Pooja’s brother Rahul attacked him and said:
“When I slid behind the steering wheel of my car, I realised I had forgotten one of my bags. I started calling Pooja on her cell phone (groans). She disconnected my calls. I kept trying to reach her. As I was dialling, I heard the glass shatter around me. I looked back to see that both windows of my car had been broken. I came out and saw Pooja's brother Rahul standing with an iron rod. I was dazed. Before I knew what happened, he started whacking me with the rod.”
In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Ranvir Shorey revealed that after his ugly breakup with Pooja Bhatt, her father, Mahesh Bhatt, planted false stories about him, portraying him as a villain. Ranvir shared that he was manipulated by Mahesh Bhatt, who first talked to his father and said everything was sorted out, and then went to the media with cooked-up stories, painting him as an abusive alcoholic.
After her ugly breakup with Ranvir Shorey, Pooja Bhatt found love in VJ Manish Makhija, who was also famous by the name of Udham Singh. Pooja and Manish met each other, became best of friends and soon started having feelings for one another. Within just two months of dating, Pooja Bhatt married Manish in 2003. However, their love story too couldn’t conclude in a happy ending as they parted ways after 11 years of marital bliss.
She took to X and shared the news of her split from Manish and revealed that despite their broken relationship, they keep each other in high esteem. In her words:
“Certificates don't make or break marriages & relationships! Life does! To all those who care & especially those that don't my husband Munna & Me have decided to part ways after 11 glorious years of marriage. Our split as some might call it is amicable & we hold each other in the highest esteem for now and forever. The reason I explain Is because we are both part of the public domain. Our friends, well-wishers, and foes are free to now speculate.”
