After the distressing incident, the streamer's mother filed for temporary custody of his kids, citing their mental health.

Perez Hilton's self-harming livestream left everyone concerned, especially his family members. The YouTuber is a single dad of three, including Mario, 13, Mia, 11, and Mayte, 8. The little ones were allegedly traumatized due to the incident as per their grandmother, Teresita Lavandeira. She told Page Six that, keeping in mind the best interests of her grandkids, she had filed for their temporary custody.

Perez's mother, Teresa moved the court to become the legal guardian of her grandchildren until her son's condition improves or the three kids are over the trauma. The exact time period of her custody demand is not available online. However, reports claim that Teresita Lavandeira filed the suit on August 7, 2026. "The children in this case should not be subjected to any further trauma related to the incidents that are the basis of the petition."

However, the security around Perez Hilton remained tight. In the recent update, the blogger's family admitted how unbearable the past several days have been for them. The statement further revealed that his three young kids were in the house before the livestream happened. However, they managed to leave before Perez harmed himself on a livestream. The statement could be read as:

"The events of the past several days have been nearly unbearable for our family. Just minutes before the public livestream incident, Perez's children, niece, and sister were inside the home. When it became clear that Perez was experiencing a severe mental health crisis and harming himself, they immediately fled to protect the children from witnessing any further trauma."

The statement further revealed that Perez Hilton's children's well-being is currently their foremost priority and that they will take adequate steps to support it. It explains Perez's mom's decision to seek temporary legal custody of the little ones. In the statement, the streamer's family also admitted that the children will need time to heal from the distressing incident. Their exact words were:

"Our highest priority right now is helping the children begin to heal from what they experienced. An important part of that process is allowing them to safely return home and begin rebuilding a sense of security and normalcy."

As per the latest update, Perez Hilton remains hospitalized under Florida's Baker Act, with his communication currently limited to family members, medical providers, and others directly involved in his care. People close to him expressed concern that his recovery could take considerably longer than his physical treatment.
