Before having a breakthrough with the teenager, Kim faced months of anger from her young daughter. During one of the episodes of The Kardashians, Kim was seen sharing with her sister Kourtney how North spent a year being "mad" at her, following her divorce from Kanye West.
Kim Kardashian, who is a doting mother to North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm, found herself in a rough patch with her firstborn after her split with Kanye West. According to Kim, they didn't see eye-to-eye for months, with the now-13-year-old preferring to stay with her father. For those who don't know, while Kim is now dating Lewis Hamilton, Kanye got married to model Bianca Censori.
Reflecting on how complicated their relationship had become, Kim Kardashian had once revealed that North West would call her dad, Kanye West, "the best", and question why her mother couldn't be more like him. She would start crying, complimenting Kanye for being more laid-back and living in an "apartment." The SKIMS owner was quoted as saying:
"She'll be like, 'Dad is the best, he has it all figured out. He doesn't have a nanny, he doesn't have a chef, he doesn't have security. He lives in an apartment.' And she'll start crying, 'Why don't you have an apartment? I can't believe we don't have an apartment.'"
At the time, Kourtney Kardashian, who coparents kids Mason Disick, Penelope Disick, and Reign Disick with ex Scott Disick, also recalled how her little ones behaved the same way whenever they stayed over at their dad's place. The Poosh founder echoed Kim's revelation and recalled how her kids, too, would say, "Dad has the best house, your house sucks." And tell her that the vibe there was "better" than at Kourtney's.
While the mother-daughter duo was initially off to a rough start, things took a turn with time. Kim Kardashian, in a later episode, was seen revealing that the breakthrough she had with her daughter, North West, was the "craziest thing". In the years after her divorce from Kanye West, Kim seems to have found what works best for her and North. In an episode of their family reality show, Kim told Kourtney Kardashian that North was completely obsessed with her now.
Kim Kardashian revealed that after a rough start, North West now showers her with immense love and even includes her during calls with her own friends. Kim recalled how North was "Like, 'Mom, I love you. You’re the best mom, I love you so much.'" Kim admitted that everything they have been through was part of a parenting journey. She even reflected on how her sister would call North her "lesson" and was quoted as saying:
"Kourtney always says that North is my lesson on this planet. I'm supposed to learn even more about patience—she teaches me patience. She has taught me a lot about life."
