Nicola Coughlan and Jake Dunn were first linked in 2024 through mutual friends in the industry. Reports say they were introduced by Coughlan’s Derry Girls co-stars, Louisa Harland and Dylan Llewellyn. Notably, Harland worked with Dunn on the Disney+ series, Renegade Nell. The duo also share an age gap of 13 years. While Nicola is 39 years old, Jake is 26.
The pair was first seen together publicly at the world premiere of Renegade Nell in London, which took place in March 2024. A few months later, a photo from July 2024 showed them playing Scrabble in a pub. In August 2024, they were also spotted dancing and embracing while watching Mitski perform at London’s All Points East festival, which drew early attention to their connection.
Speculation grew in October 2024 after they were photographed holding hands following a date night at a bar in North London. Around that time, Dunn also included Coughlan in a December Instagram photo dump in which she was pictured smiling while holding drinks.
The couple was seen again on a casual stroll through London in January 2025. Coughlan was spotted wearing a black trench coat over a light sweater and Dunn in jeans, a hoodie and a lime green cap.
Nicola Coughlan made the relationship public on social media on February 12, 2025. She posted an Instagram Stories birthday tribute for Jake Dunn with a side-profile photo of him, a red heart emoji and the caption saying, “Happy Birthday.”
The pair later stepped out together publicly at the BAFTA Television & Craft Awards nominees party in London, marking their red carpet debut as a couple. The event was held on April 24-25, 2025, and Coughlan attended following her nomination for Best Female Performance in a Comedy for Big Mood.
Nicola Coughlan spoke to E! News on August 18, 2026, addressing how she and Jake Dunn keep their relationship working despite busy schedules. She shared that Jake was able to join her while she filmed her upcoming movie, The Magic Faraway Tree.
Coughlan said she had no complaints because he was in Malta the entire time she was shooting. She explained that he had initially come for a visit and then decided to stay longer since he was on a break from his own project. She added that she was happy because Jake chose to stay.
Nicola also said that the atmosphere on set made the experience even better. Her co-stars, including Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy, had also brought their families and partners along, which doesn’t always happen during filming. Coughlan recalled that there were lots of kids, spouses and friends around. She described that time as a very happy memory.
Jake Dunn is also active in the same industry as his girlfriend. He started his journey by working on multiple short films like Anhedonia, Paroxysm, The Skin That Burns, and more. He has gained recognition over the years by appearing on TV shows such as Get Even, Renegade Nell, What it Feels Like for a Girl, and My Brilliant Career.
