Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleYami Gautam has made a strong foothold in Hindi cinema with her back-to-back hit films. She has even won a National Award for her acting, and people eagerly awaited her recently released film, Nayyi Navelli, but it seems it failed to hit the right chord, with people on X expressing disappointment after seeing it.
Nayyi Navelli, starring Yami Gautam, is a horror-comedy that seems to forget its main plot. Director Balaji Mohan tried to liven up the film by bringing in G.V. Prakash Kumar's composition, but it fails to contribute to the film. Yami Gautam's acting fails to do justice to the film, but the writing is the main culprit, and it doesn't make sense.
The film claims to be inspired by the Ramayana, but it hardly stands true to it. It is set in Meerut and revolves around 'Mohini' who is the India head of an MNC. Her entry scene ends with a massive chandelier falling on a corporate executive. In the scary moment, love blossoms between 'Mohini' and 'Raja Awasthi' played by Addinath M. Kothare, who is a victim of the slain boss.
This union adds 'Mohini' into 'Awasthi' family. 'Mohini' shamed 'Raja's father into expressing gratitude to his wife 'Asha' for making cups of tea for the people who were gathered to finalise her engagemetn with Raja. The family is left even more scared when 'Raja's brother 'Bantu' revealed that his wife is a daayan. While the film is a horror comedy, it fails to serve the purpose.
Netizens were quick to flock to X and shared their thoughts on the movie. One user commented that the film is really hard to watch. The addition of religious symboism is not upto the mark, and the climax is laughable. The user called it the weakest film in Yami's career, and wrote:
"#NayyiNavelli is a really tough watch, man. So much of the comedic heavy lifting is done by Anurag Thakur, but the integration of religious symbolism is extremely poor. The action sequences are clunky. The lore is rushed. The climax CGI is laughable. Yami Gautam has been on a great run, but this film is probably her weakest in years."
The second one commented that the movie is poorly executed. The film starts on a slow note and tries hard to touch the funny side, but the comedy fails to land. The user wrote, "#NayyiNavelli was marketed as a horror movie, and the makers desperately try to establish that impression. The film starts on a slow note, trying too hard to be funny in the first half, but most of the comedy fails to land, barring the Jacqueline Fernandes portion. However, around the interval, the story changes direction, and we discover an unexpected #Ramayan connection. The premise is genuinely interesting and gives the film a different dimension."
The user further added, "Unfortunately, the execution is extremely poor. The makers force comedy into almost every situation, the screenplay feels stretched, and there's hardly any mystery, thrill or genuine horror to keep you invested. The only elements that work are the devotional songs and the background score. The VFX, meanwhile, is quite sloppy."
