Coral Springs Mayor Nancy, Metayer Bowen's death has shaken the Florida community. She was a prominent political leader who was suddenly found dead at her home. However, the situation has become more complex after the authorities have taken her husband, Stephen Bowen, into custody while treating the case as a domestic-related investigation.
After Nancy Metayer Bowen, Vice Mayor of Coral Springs, was found dead at her home on April 1, 2026, police began an investigation into her death. Soon, they confirmed that they took her husband, Stephen Bowen, into custody for his connection to the case. Although the police have not released the complete details about his arrest in their investigation, they have named no other suspects or ongoing threats to Nancy.
The 40-year-old is now in the spotlight amid the investigation. According to a report by Florida Politics, he was caught and arrested by the Broward County Sheriff's Office. The arrest came after he allegedly fled the crime scene. Soon, the authorities tracked him down using the license plate recognition systems and detained him at his friend's home in Plantation, Florida. His decision to leave the crime scene after finding out about his wife's dead body has raised serious concerns among investigators.
Moreover, further investigation suggests that Stephen was a suspect from the beginning, given his behavior when the cops first arrived. Some reports suggest that Nancy's friend initially tried to contact her, but she was unable to reach her. When that same friend called Stephen, they found his response odd, so they initiated a wellness check. Subsequently, when the cops arrived at her home on Northwest Avenue, they found the Vice Mayor's dead body. Later, the Coral Springs Police Chief Brad Mock stated that they are treating it as a domestic-related killing, but they did not reveal the exact events leading to her death. In his words:
"This is being investigated as a domestic violence incident. Her husband, Stephen Bowen, is in our custody. There are no additional suspects at this time, and there are no immediate threats to anyone in the public".
Initially, the official statements did not reveal the cause of her death. But later, some reports suggested that Nancy Metayer passed away from gunshot wounds. Investigators are still trying to gather evidence from the scene, and authorities have emphasized that the case remains active. Until now, the formal charges against Stephen Bowen have not been fully disclosed. However, his custody status and the circumstances of his case suggest he remains the primary focus of the investigation.
