The pair has been romantically linked for around five years and got engaged in 2024. They are also trending for their recent appearance at the 2026 ESPYs. Keep reading to know more about their relationship!
Mikaela Shiffrin and Aleksander Aamodt Kilde’s love story started over a decade ago, in 2014. The duo was in Chile as they participated in an Atomic ski brand media event. They were the only athletes who arrived a day early, so they had dinner together with Shiffrin’s mom and her agent. The next day at the event, they ended up sitting next to each other in the room. Aleksander eventually sent a friend request to Mikaela.
They reconnected years later in 2020 on Instagram, and their friendship turned into something more in 2021. Shiffrin’s father, Jeff, passed away in February 2021, and Kilde reached out to her on Instagram, expressing his grief. At the same time, Kilde was recovering from a knee injury and was on crutches. They started talking regularly and grew closer privately, away from media attention.
Back in May 2021, Kilde made the relationship official on Instagram by posting a few photos. The duo’s first major public appearance as a couple was at the ESPY Awards in New York on July 11, 2021. The pair competed together at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics for the U.S. and Norway. Despite the distance, they became each other’s main support system through wins, losses, and injuries.
Kilde later suffered a severe leg laceration and shoulder injuries in Wengen, Switzerland. Shiffrin injured her left leg in Cortina d’Ampezzo. The couple went through rehab at the same time and helped each other through recovery. They announced their engagement in April 2024 with a joint Instagram post. The photos showed them together with mountains behind them, and Shiffrin wearing a diamond ring set between two gold bands.
As mentioned, Mikaela Shiffrin and Aleksander Aamodt Kilde recently appeared together at the ESPYs, held in New York City on July 15, 2026. While the duo got engaged around two years ago, they have not tied the knot yet. Mikaela has finally broken her silence on the matter when she addressed the same in an interview at the latest event. She said:
“We’re not wedding planning. What I’m realising is while we’re racing and we’re not together for most of the year… we just need to take the time to be together and maybe when at least one of us retires then we can probably get into it. So it might be a little bit of time.”
A few months ago, in February 2026, Mikaela Shiffrin recalled how her relationship with Aleksander Aamodt Kilde started while facing a few issues at the same time. Mikaela said that she was in a different phase in 2020, specifically after her father’s death.
When Aleksander contacted Mikaela after she lost her father, she realised that she felt different when he spoke to her compared to others who reached out at the same time. However, the situation turned out to be something else when Aleksander approached her for dinner. Mikaela seemingly gave a funny response, and Aleksander believed that she rejected him. While Mikaela initially thought that Aleksander had ghosted her, they reconnected.
