The docuseries revisits her death in April 2024, which had prompted questions about her troubled marriage to South Carolina pastor John-Paul "JP" Miller.
The true-crime investigation, which premiered on Netflix on August 26, 2026, largely explores Mica’s relationship with JP. Mica had already been married once before she became the pastor’s wife. She married a man identified as Jeremy in 2012, years before her relationship with JP became romantic.
According to information presented in Death of the Pastor's Wife, Mica married Jeremy on September 29, 2012, when she was 18 years old. Jeremy's identity has remained largely out of the public spotlight, and very little is known about him compared with the extensive attention surrounding Mica’s second marriage.
Interestingly, JP Miller was the one who officiated Mica and Jeremy’s wedding. At the time, Mica was a young member of Solid Rock Church in Myrtle Beach, where JP served as pastor. Mica’s relationship with JP later became romantic, creating a complicated history between the three.
Mica and Jeremy remained married for approximately four years before filing for divorce on September 14, 2016. Their divorce was finalized before Mica married JP the following year. The couple did not have any children during the marriage.
The precise private reasons for Mica and Jeremy’s divorce were never publicly established in detail. What is known is that their marriage reportedly ended after Mica’s relationship with the pastor had already begun. The Netflix documentary focuses much more heavily on Mica’s relationship with JP than on her first marriage, meaning there are limited publicly documented details about what happened between Mica and Jeremy.
Mica and JP got married in November 2017, but they never had children together. As a result, Mica did not have biological or adopted children from either of her marriages.
Mica’s relationship with JP became a central part of her story. According to accounts featured in the Netflix documentary, Mica first met JP through Solid Rock Church when she was a teenager. She eventually became a worship leader and worked closely with him.
Mica was 18 when she married Jeremy. JP was significantly older and was married to Alison Williams at the time. According to the documentary's accounts, the pair began an affair in 2015, when they were both married to their respective spouses. After the marriages ended, Mica and JP tied the knot on November 7, 2017. Their relationship would later become deeply troubled.
Mica and JP’s marriage lasted several years, but according to her family, friends, and accounts featured in Death of the Pastor’s Wife, the relationship eventually became increasingly difficult. Mica separated from JP and ultimately sought a divorce in 2024. In an affidavit accompanying her divorce filing, she described experiencing alleged emotional, sexual, spiritual, financial, and physical abuse.
JP has consistently denied wrongdoing in Mica's tragic end and has not been officially charged with causing her death. However, the circumstances surrounding her death have raised several eyebrows. Mica was found dead at Lumber River State Park in North Carolina just two days after she served JP with divorce papers. Her death was officially ruled a suicide, but family and friends have continued to question the circumstances surrounding her final months.
The legal scrutiny of JP did not end with Mica's death. In December 2025, he was indicted by a federal grand jury on charges including cyberstalking and lying to federal investigators. Prosecutors allege that he engaged in a pattern of harassment toward Mica before her death. The pastor's federal trial is currently scheduled for October 2026, and he remains free on bond.
